I finally got the spare Challenger body primed and cut, and I have the primer, base coat gold, and 3 coats of Toreador Red on it now, and Clearcoat tomorrow, I hope. I'll take a photo of it and the shards of the first shattered body to post. I'm trying a new design for a chassis, and I'll photo that, too. Still haven't found all the pieces of that first body...

Thanks, guys. My wife saw what happened to the first one and was very solicitous and comforting. She said my lip was dragging on the floor, and I looked like a basset hound. When the second one tried to ruin itself, I wasn't sad, I was ticked off. It was me or that hunk of plastic, death match.

I've been planning to do a car in this fancy layered up technique ever since Dave and I were talking about hot rod days, right after we met on HRW. Its old hat to him, but I wanted to do one like it was done back in our day.

And I always get paint on my left hand. In fact, I still use the Tamiya stand the same way I used my old bent coathanger when painting. Embarrassing I know, but it just feels better that way. One of these days, I'll design a nice holder from 3/32nds wire, bent just so and adjustable, with a nice handle, but for now, I have two of these things in use, and I still paint my hand every time, especially that thumbnail!

The back of a left hand glove (assuming you're right-handed) makes a great spray test area when you have to change paint consistency while in the middle of airbrushing.

Strangely enough, when airbrushing I use the stand as intended. It just feels best to me.

Does look great and it already has the hole in the hood! Talking about old style paint jobs, I'm thinking of doing a "fogged" paint job on something here soon. I did a JoHan Comet Pro Stocker orange with metallic blue fogged from above years ago, looked pretty good as I remember.

I remember those. And the white front that fades into darker and darker colors all the way back to the tailfins. A guy I knew built a '59 Pontiac Bonneville white-to-yellow-to-red-to-maroon when we were 12. I still remember that car.

Dave in California did all that stuff for a living for a long time. He probably knows tricks about that custom paint stuff that would cross our eyes.
