Ascot Park Raceway

This week I wired in the track call buttons, made some new controller holders, made the first of several palm trees, installed some telephone pole logs for the figure eight and made a motocross jump. More tree are in the works, then it's on to the stadium lights.


Each driver gets a track call button. The controller holder is made from thin plywood and MDF.


The first of several palm trees. This was handmade from copper tubing, wire, masking tape and toilet paper. It stands a little over 12 inches tall.


The paint on the motocross jump is still drying. More to come.

Great job. Looks like the way it did when I was an official there. Carey Agajanian would be impressed.I can't to cars on this track

I was at a race at Ascot in the late 80's & during the Bomber Main there one pit crew member got PO'd at his driver's on track rival & every time that car would come around he would peek up from behind the dirt berm & pelt the car w/a rock. I also saw a sprint car driver killed there, a couple get married one time & many, many a fine midget race. The figure 8 train race was always pretty good too. A real piece of Americana. You name 'em, they raced there.

BTW, very nice looking track. The "pond" you mentioned was more of just a big puddle if I remember correctly. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You do need a Mini Orbit Donut cart though. : )

More palm trees and the ponds/mud puddles are coming. Funny thing is: it's in the 30's here, but making palm trees reminds me of warmer days in SoCal.

That's a great looking track. Brings back memories of racing motorcycles there. The jump was actually part of the motorcycle tt track. It was 18 feet high. The bikes would jump almost 100 feet. Then into a right hander in front of the duck pond. The pond was about 3 feet deep.I have seen bikes miss the corner and go in the water. Can't wait to see your track when it's done.

What a difference those fairly minor scenic tweaks have made!

It looked pretty good to begin with; it looks really great now.

Also, the proportions look so right. My Saltend Speedway is 12x4, but your extra foot width totally alters the look (and, I guess, the driveability on the inner lanes).
