I forgot to show the required test shot.

Setting up cars on your new track after you finish routing is a slot car law :)

Looking real good! I like the idea of the slotted pit lane.

My 4 decades plus of woodworking makes me a fan to Durham's Rock Hard. But it isn't universal. For slot repair I go only to plain old Bondo, for the slippery surface left for the guide to bear on. Careful routing will make very gratifying results right through a Bondo repair, especially if you follow up with a #120 sandpaper wrapped around a plastic putty spade, the kind used for auto body work (Harry uses an emery board wrapped with #120). So, to reinforce a slot when you go into a curve, Bondo is great, and its smooth, making for a faster track, the exact same way as Harry is using to ease the joint in the slot for his track.

Like Harry says, this isn't news to a lot of us, but for anyone who is watching this thread for important advice, pay attention, because Harry is being inclusive of everyone.

Thanks Rob.

Yes, I use Bondo for slot repair. I prefer it as it is smoother, and the drying time is very fast.

Fill the slot and sand the top flush.

And simply route a new one.

HOWEVER...some people do NOT want the smell/fumes of Bondo in the house :)
This is where Durham's works best. It's odor free, so you won't get yelled at for making the house smell like a body shop. :)
Shotgun Dave reminded me of that tonight and is well worth mentioning.
So either product will do the job.

This is one great build thread Harry!! :text-goodpost: The vids are very informative and if there is anyone out that is afraid to jump in and try routing, just watching and reading this thread and everyone's input into it should help to guide you all the way through the build!! Even seasoned vets can pick up pointers to their own routing styles!! :text-thankyouyellow:

I never would have thought about the Bondo smell. I always liked it, really. But I do see the point. Folks are different, after all. I want to throw up the second I smell cabbage boiling. Always have. When I was a kid, it seemed like everywhere I went somebody was boiling cabbage for years. People talked about how good it smelled and looked forward to eating it, and I would go out in the freezing cold and be happy, or shovel s**t in the stalls, it smelled a lot better to me. Anything but being where that cabbage smell was.

That's a new one on me. I never heard of anybody frying cabbage. But the sausage is making me hungry. I have always said that cole slaw was the only way I eat cabbage, but recently, I tried curtido, a cousin of slaw from El Salvador which they eat with a flat tamale called pupusas. Now, there are two ways I like cabbage, and neither one is cooked.
