unlimited entry feature racing

Here is a system that our club ,MBRA, uses to ensure a full feature field every week. This system rewards sportsmanship and driving consistancy. This type of racing was developed back in the late 60's and was used at my hobby shop in the 80's for our NASCAR series where we ran 40 car races with entries from 5 states. Try it and see what you think, i'll present it with a 12 car feature.

Every car runs a qualifying lap or two, your choice .All races line up with the fastest car on the outside, no lane changes ! This will be a 100 lap race.

Each 100 lap segment is timed from start to finish and the laps for each car recorded
Low E.T. wins overall, each following car with 100 laps completed is recorded
The next group is by laps completed, in case of a tie I.E. 2nd & 4th heats 98 laps, are decided by overall time, this counts down to the last place car with the least amount of laps in the highest E.T. race.

SOUNDS DIFFICULT BUT IS VERY SIMPLE, NO MORE 4 CAR FEATURES SWITCHING LANES.

I've found the easiest way to do any type of table of information is to either set it up in Google Docs (free to use) and post a link - or - to make a table in a spreadsheet / word processing program and then use the windows "Snipping" tool to make a picture of it, save it to photobucket, tinypic.com, etc and post the "picture" of the table.
Hope that helps! :)

Hi, Rick asked me to make it easier to show the program and I will be able to do that, just need a little time to get the sheets made up. Hopefully have it posted with in the week. Trust me it is worth the wait the program is fun to run and different than the standard rotation that most hobby shops use today. We have used it as our main format for the last five years and the group we have enjoys running the program.

We have two programs that we use. One is the weekly race program and the other is the traveling series program. The weekly program consists of qualifying, heat races, last chance races, and features. When our club was up to 30 racers we even had a fast dash and even I a IROC series for past champions. The other series was a little easier to follow, just qualifying, last chance race to even the field and and the main event. You dont even need the last chance race and can just run either a segment with less than four cars or have ghost cars to fill the empty lanes. I will explain in detail when I have the program posted.

Thanks for your patience, just need time to draft it up and have a busy week ahead of me.
Thanks again
Scott

Sounds like an interesting way of doing a race. But out of curiosity, with this method, can't a guy "sandbag" in qualifying in an attempt to get the inside lane?

I knew that the "sandbag " issue would come up, the way we clear this hurdle is to pay qualifying points, usually fast time could be eqaul to a heat win, and pay out points with ,say, a two point decending order. With this system it's better to go all out. Also with no lane changes consistancy instead of all out speed makes for less crashes as your goal is to get the lowest E.T. Scott and i put our heads together for one 100 lap feature, as we agreed i would take the lead and Scott would run behind me and not challenge until the last ten laps, we pretty much crushed the competion with our pre-race strategy. So this system , when Scott gets it up the right was is rediculously simple, but it keeps everybody on their toes and thinking. AND, this is big, the lane length differences don't make much of a difference, the majority of our races have been won from the outside lanes, so in turn it doesn't hurt to qualify all out.
