Would do 1/8th for slot I would go with braid you can get from slot car corner and the bit to cut it into the track power check with some of the other guys I use a deep cycle marine battery with a ajustable voltage control
hope this is a help I have built over 8 tracks to date and one more in the works

Yes, 1/8th of an inch is the standard slot width, the depth should be just a smidge over 1/4th of an inch. You can't go wrong with the stuff from Slot Car Corner They have the router bit for the slot, a special bit to to the braid recesses, braid and double sided tape to stick down the braid. Custom hookup panels and controller holders are also available. A Pyramid PS-26KX is a good power supply for a 6 lane track.

If you want to use battery power, another is a wheelchair battery. They are less expensive, and much safer for indoor use. We've been using a 35AH unit for two years now with no issues on our 6 lane track. Most cars are running Falcon, ChettahII, or Slick 7 motors.
