"I can't drive 55" - 55 Sportsman WIP

Time for the second Sportsman Showdown project. This time we roll back the time a couple more years to 1955. The 55 Chevy might just be the icon of early stock car racing. I've seen many a photo with a turn full of these hammers going at it. Anyway, the mail ran today and dropped off the usual SCC jewelry box so it's time to get started.

This isn't the first 55 I have ever done as this model has been around a long time. MT made a great mold of it so I am using it in stead of the usual Snap-Tite kit.

As old Smoke and Fred look things over in the body department, time for another installment of Harry's Almost Useless modeling tips :)
Making a simple flat tray interior is easy for most and really doesn't need much of a tutorial. BUT I have had more email about it so here we go.

I like using the Plastruct diamond plate for effect. When you are finished it adds just a bit more scale appeal to me so it's worth the investment. The roll bars I make from the Evergreen rod. I just use a lighter to heat and bend. Testors model glue holds it just fine. I use just about anything for a dash panel, but left over clear lexan works great. Best use of a cheap commercial blob body I can think of. They are found very cheap and the best part is using the pre-molded windshields for other models when you want or need a curvature shape. If not, you can see I save all sorts of blister packs and have even picked up some clean K&S sheets. ANOTHER HINT: Save those soda bottles! A good 2 liter bottle also makes a great source for windshields :)

Once spray painted flat black I think it looks ok. No modeling awards here, just a basic interior that you can fine detail if you wanted to.

Works for our racing :)
Ok, time to heat up the old iron...stay tuned. :auto-checkeredflag:
