(12/12/12) The racing at the South Gate Speedrome just seems to be getting better and better. Wednesday evening was no exception as ten hotshoes gathered at the 25 year-old track for a double show of SCORE USAC midgets and dirt champs that featured an abundance of side-by-side competition and a general lack of mishaps.

Carey Becker continued his winning ways by turning a fast pace in the midget main that produced a two-point advantage over runner-up Homer Hiester. A marker behind Hiester, Tim Buckwalter edged Lee Greenawalt by less wrecks in a tie-breaker for third place. Likewise, Dave Balloch bested Trevor Kobylarz for fifth as positions two through seven were separated by a mere three points in the 50 lapper.

It's no secret that Mike Lengel has struggled a bit this season, but Wednesday night Iron Mike shook off the gremlins in the dirt champ event to collect his first victory of the campaign by a whopping five point margin. "Homes" Hiester, once again, took second place laurels, this time, by one counter over Balloch. Becker was another point down in the 75 lap event for fourth and one click ahead of Bruce Buckwalter who topped Doug Hiester in a tie-breaker for the fifth spot. Just three markers covered the finish among the drivers from second through sixth place.

What are the measurements "footprint" ?

Do you run 1/24th scale hardbodies on this trak ? Is it big enough to ?

These SCORE cars and events always look great - thanks for posting!

I think this kind of racing would be a great addition to what is run locally here on Long Island, at the South Shore Speedway in Patchogue NY (an "underground" home garage based track).

These little open wheelers just look great - they are scale appearing and would make for some cool racing.

South gate is 8'x12'. 6 lanes but only use 5.
We have run hardbody Cup cars there in the past and might in the future.Its a good track for them with the sweeping turns.

Those bodies look way better than the Sprints Plus jobs. Where do they come from?

Most of the tails are from the Monogram sprint car kits and the hoods are either from model kits are made from sheet styrene.

Those would look good on my track.
