Why is it whenever I see a YouTube video of a wreck & fire on a small dirt oval that the first guy that always shows up is a guy in flip flops & shorts that tries to kick dirt on the fire, followed by the rescue truck (which some guy falls off of) followed by another guy who can't ever seem to get his fire extinguisher to work? : )

Oh man, that is dark. That is really dark. But I have seen some of those films. Places I went to were fully prepared because the city and county were on their butts all the time, but things could sure be different in Hooterville or Pixley.

I know a lot of people gave Doug Wolfgang a lot of grief for pushing for more safety after his fire but the guy was right.

I get very annoyed when I'm at a track where the fire crew is not geared up while racing is going on. I have noticed that it doesn't happen as often as it used to around here.

The tracks I used to run here in the mid-west had to pass annual insurance reviews.

I know a lot of people don't like rules and regulations, from building permits to safety codes, but sometimes they are necessary to prevent bad outcomes. Too often the assumption, "that's not going to happen" leads to being under prepared. In a lot of cases it is insurance requirements that drive preparedness.
