Had a nice afternoon up in Jeff City. Good old Hobby Lobby restocked had a nice selection and you know those coupons come in handy :)



One new thing I was REALLY happy with was they had a new K&S metal center. Used to be they just had a couple "misc" bags with all sizes. But now they had quite a selection. Hit the local Westlake and only had to get a couple items I was short on.

Both will make a nice roundy-rounder I think.

Our local hobby shop was killed by hobby lobby and hobbytown, a double blow, both opened really close together. Hobby Lobby does some nasty political things nationally, so I wouldn't go in there to save them if they were on fire, but I found several online places that had my brass supplies and was very relieved. I'm not ordering from my friends at Midland Hardware any more because they no longer have anything in stock, its all drop shipped and takes weeks to deliver. But now that my LHS is gone, I only have Model Roundup for kits. I hope I will be okay with that small group for supplies.

Tell her we appreciate her taking good care of you. Just remember.....one "Aw @#$% ! :oops: " wipes out all of your "Attaboys" with household management. Then you have to start all over again!

yeah, way2, I'm with ya- I was going to say something about hobby lobby's bad corporate attitude.
even before that came out, they'd p'd me off in person too, a couple times when I was on the road out west last year- clueless, waste-of-time store personnel, lack of locally advertised product and refusal to honor their coupons from the same paper. twice.

there are actually three independent hobby stores around here that carry brass and plastic stock. when hobbytown I think it was, went away it spawned two of 'em who took over their stores, fortunately, although neither one sometimes has the best attitude in the world. the third one's not bad, and I knew the founder, although they sometimes run out of stuff and also have funny hours. (he actually used to have two slotcar tracks, back in the early 90's!) but I guess I'm just lucky.
if HL were the only game in town, though, I'd still do my best to avoid them if I could, even if it cost me. I think that they're real st1nkers. (sorry about that)

Anyone with a local hobby shop should treasure it. Especially it it's independent.

I'm lucky if my local toy shop has Tamiya spray cans in stock. I still use aerosol for priming and clear coat (about to change). They haven't had primer since I bought the last 3 cans in January.

I had to go to Warrnambool last week (nearest larger city) and figured I'd pick up some paint supplies at the toy shop (same franchise as local but much bigger). Guess what? No primer. No clear coat. Argh!

Lynne, if you can't get Tamiya stuff easily, I can buy it and send it to you easy enough. I have had success on Japanese sites for it in the past when the label change fiasco was going on for the primers. [California's fault, entirely]

Sorry Rob, it is the aerosol that is the problem. I can buy it mail order but as an aerosol it can't travel by post and has to be couriered under the Dangerous Goods Act.

I airbrush everything but primer and clear. Soon to be everything but primer.

I'm a sucker for a damsel in distress. I can go to Tamiya here and see if they have any liquid surface primer. It comes in white or grey. Tamiya here also sells Mr. Color and they also have stuff called Mr. Surfacer 1000.

Hi Mike. You really do get around don't you? :) Do you know if the primer comes in larger pots? The small ones don't go very far. I can get the grey in the smallest jar occasionally but never the white or the fine.

Not actually tried the Mr Color/Gunze Sangyo primer.
