Sweet, a new Camaro thread
I'm really looking forward to see this one progress Harry.
As a Young Fella, I remember going to the old Claremont speedway in Perth with my Brother and Dad (now both gone) when USA drivers Charlie Swartz, Rodney Combs, Don Tilford and Jimmy Hopkinson toured Australia in their Camaros.
These cars were state of the Art, in an era when speedway in West Australia was still running old Sedan Cars that were just souped up old road cars , there was only a couple of Guys here that could run with the "yanks", the West Aussie Hero was a bloke called Barry Blake (Big Bad Barry) who imported a black corvette just in time for the series (the car was so advanced at the time, it's importation made the 6 o clock news!
The ensuing battle between Barry and the Yanks was the stuff legends are born from, Black Flags, altercations and fender to fender racing. Culminating in Blake and one of the US team being disqualified from a feature race. Blake refused to leave the track and proceeded to do donuts at the start line with the crowd going nuts and then took his place in the field, despite multiple blag flags.
In the end the West Aussie crowd were going berserk and the officials had to let Blake Race or the mob would have torn the place apart.
Blake went into Combat against the Invading US team once more and the crowd went home buzzing from the excitement. (They just excluded Blake from the results after the meeting)
It left quite an impression on me as a young bloke and firmly cement my place in society as a Car Guy.

Sorry for the threadjack but that Camaro just reminded me of good times long ago. thanks for that!!
