Scalextric Trans Am's as a starting point?

Has anyone used these as a starting point for early 70's short track stock cars? I'm thinking of grinding out the wheel wells a bit, pulling off any chrome & adding larger tires. Thoughts? pictures? Thanks.

Perfect, it's exactly what I was thinking of. A couple questions. Was there any filling/putty work or did you just remove material? The wheel wells look good. Secondly, what is the wheel/tire combination? Thanks much, I really apprecaite it.

Sure thing Boss!
I will just go ahead and post these others too. Just some other options to consider since they all are set up the same way.
Pioneer Camaro

RMS Falcon with Scaley Mustang chassis

Scalextric XB Falcon

OK, another question. I got the wheels & tires (had to go to 2 sources because the tires were out of stock at the first place) & now I see that the standard scalextric axles are too big to fit in the wheels. What size axles to I need to get (thickness & length for a scalextric trans am mustang) & I imagine I'll also need a new crown gear & set of bushings (to match the slightly smaller axles). Specific part numbers would be great as when I go to a site to shop it's oh so confusing because of all of the choices. : ) This was sure easier when you could just go to a local shop & ask a guy & test fit a few parts. : )
Thanks for your help. I think once I get past the first car & have a list of parts it will be way easier. Cheers!

Oh those look like fun!! Wheel to wheel banging must result in a lot of spectacular offs. I suppose Allan Moffat's Ford Falcon sort of looks like a Torino?? Where Torinos ever used as short track cars??
