Nice!!

I wish I had room for the larger cars.. on my old track I did as it was 22 feet long and even that felt short with 1/24th mods.

Back then we used an H&R chassis and plastic model kits.. Here are a couple from 8 or 9 years ago..

nhdungeonracer built the wagon, I built the yellow/blue Pinto and Matt Wilder built the Gulf Pinto..

They looked good, but it was the guys at Reality Raceway that really started making proper looking Northeast Mods..
It's amazing how much the extra nerf bars bring the cars to life.. and 'vintage 1/24' and 'slotguy' really deserve
the credit (or blame as the case may be) for bringing that more realistic design to 1/32 scale.. I just built up thier stuff.
I've got 2 more chassis / body combo's on the way and the parts to build them up as well.. They are going to
look great running together, and hopefully will gain some interested with the local guys..I'd love to see an
oval racing series up here that mimics a typical Saturday night short track with Street Stocks, Late Models and Mods!

Looking forward to how yours progresses~ :text-bravo:

Kev,

How much room do you really need for 1:24 racing action?

Right now we have a few tracks in our racing group. I plan to build a track to add to that collection here soon.

One of our tracks, Thunder Shores Raceway is a 4 x 12 foot 3 lane oval. We race a lot of different slot cars on that track - 1:32 Carrera Stock Cars, 3 categories of Womps, Limited Speedway Stockers, Sportsman Stockers and Modifieds and Open World of Outlaw Dirt Late Modifieds and Modifieds on that track. The racing is always close and the action intense. You reall need to pick your passing spots as the lane spacing is 3 7/8. It is a true short track and it's a blast.

Personally, I've raced on many large tracks. The largest of them being a 300 foot per lap beast in Linden, NJ back in the 1960's. That was a "Motor Track". The short oval is a handling track. I think it is harder to do well on a small oval than a large track, but that is my opinion.

Regardless, it's a slot car or as some call it a little toy car that we race. I'm interested in the FUN I'm having by doing this. I sometimes think slot car racing is more of a social event then a competition.

But I thank you very much for getting me thinking about these modifieds.

BTW - the body came off of my JK Spring Steel Formula 1 chassis with one of my handbuilt S16C motors in it. It was a VERY fast car, one that needs a bigger track. But I put a JK Hawk 25 in it and it ran very well on the short track. However that setup uses .760 tires and it just does not look like a real Whelan Modified.

One of our other group members is modifying a Womp chassis to mount his JK body on. I'm thinking this will make a great class for racing.

More to follow.

Looking good! As usual. You do such nicely square and spare chassis. A real treat to see.

And... this thread has a car that warms the cockles of my heart- Station Wagon Modifieds! And you know how much you like hot cockles, whatever they are. I like them so much I have done three of them, a Chevelle Malibu, a '57 Nomad, and I converted a Cougar to an open hood wagon. That last one was wild and fun to do.

Lots of cool stuff in this thread. I like those Vintage Asphalt Modifieds that TurboKev offered up - the Longroof is an unusual subject - outstanding.

Florida_Slotter: The chassis build is going great - the modifieds really lend themselves to the slot cars I think - the brass bars just make them substantial toys. Plus form follows function - all the bars actually work in scale as well.

I have drawn a bunch of 'paper' bodies in 1/24 scale (to fit the 4 inch FCR) and in 1/32 scale (to fit the Womp).

NY MODIFIEDS in 1/24 and 1/32 SCALE-

IN DIFFERENT SIZES AND DIFFERENT FLAVORS -

I also draw up 'custom' cars if you have some kind of reference.

In any case, keep building. The Modified class is where the best racing always seems to be found!

That really is an insane idea. Little teardrop trailers from the 40s and 50s, mounted so they swish side to side but can't flip. I may do one just for fun.
