My 8 year old Cooper is my car guy.. He's always with me in the garage when I'm workin on a 1:1 project, always wants to go to
the junk yard with me, loves going to the races and in this last year, since building the routed track downstairs, he has really
enjoyed the slot car track. At first he only wanted to drive the road course..couldn't see the oval as being very interesting but
since getting a few Modifieds here his tune has changed. He's starting to get how fun the oval cars can be and how it's more
challenging than it first appears to turn quick laps over and over.
Last night after dinner he asked if I'd go down and race with him so we first took the Artin Street Stockers for a spin..
We ran four 50 lap races rotating through the lanes at least once, and we each won 2 of them.
His Camaro, My Mustang: Both completely stock Artin stockers with Scalextric bodies installed.

Next we moved on to the Modifieds.. Identical builds and such a blast to race.
We ran them just in practice mode and got used to the faster speeds but just before bedtime we set up a 100 lap feature race.
Of course, we had a few incidents..rubin’ is racin’ right?

(note the bent front bumper after the race LOL)
But at the end of 100 laps, the last 40 or so caution free, I took the win by .28 seconds and that lead was
about the largest of the race..
We had a great time racing and laughing.. When he headed up to get ready for bed he thanked me for racing him, and
said “I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of slot cars.. they are really awesomeâ€
You never know what kids are going to stay interested in, but for now he is all about the little scale race cars :D
