Great modern film for paint job inspiration, Mike.
Here they are in action in Oz in the 50s
And this clip shows clearly the size of the stadium
No more worries about how small can an oval be!

#100 in that first batch makes my fingers tingle! I'm building that one! I can't wait to fabricate that engine.

The article said something about a New York connection - I wonder if it was originally an old NY Modified?
I have seen that hook on the dashboard on a few Modifieds from that era (say early-mid 50s). The drivers would literally "hook" it in second gear so it wouldn't pop out of gear!
I am working on a Vintage 1/32 Modified - not exactly from this era - but a 1/32 Modified.

Those old Ford toploader transmissions did not have synchronizers, after a while they wouldn't stay in gear when you backed off the throttle. That hook was a sure fire fix for that!. The best trans setup in those old stockers and hot rods, was a 39 ford with Lincoln zephyr gears. An Almquist adapter would put them behind just about any power plant of the day!.

Looking through some of my old photos and found this. Joe Wilcox. Its' a Hudson, and I think it ran a Hudson power plant. It was the only 6 cylinder in the field. This car ran very well every week...against a whole slew of small block Chevys and small block Fords. I remember the "different" sound it had compared to all the V8's
Here he is at Eastern States Exposition Speedway in 1967.

At the "Park".
