With all the interest lately on building these old Jalopy's and modifieds, I thought i would share the fact that these cars can be built on chassis other than brass, for those that are not into soldering, but like to do kit bashing and retro fitting.
These cars are all built from MPC Bodies, and Artin chasis. They are very fun and competitive racers. There are quite a few other chassis's that could be used as well

That would be out standing Harry! You know i like these old cheap'o chassis. and to see some of your old stuff would be great! And Dave you are so right, they can be hopped up pretty easy. its a great platform for just about any build really.

Very good point as that is what I was thinking, the popsicle chassis comes to mind.
Some of the wheels you guys are using are too pricy for me also so looking at other options.
After Artin was not available here I bought some chassis and cars cheap (new also) on Ebay but dont have the heart to cut them up.
You have some very nice cars there.

Oldspark, there are a couple of sources out there for Artin chassis still. One is an ebay seller, you can get a whole track with for cars for $60 plus shipping. that works out to less than $20 per car, and you can sell the track if you dont need it. the other is Professor Motor, he has the cars individually. You can also use Carrera axles and wheels as a drop in on the artin chassis. But yes, any scratch built chassis will work on these things, and they are fun as a series.
