Does anyone make HO Scale resin bodies for drag racing that are wide enough to snuggle over the wheels & tires so that the body rides low without having to switch out wheels & tires & narrowing the axles?

Brian beat me with that suggestion.
You might try nitroslots.com , a drag racing forum.
Also, Jimmy Flintstone.
You didn’t mention what chassis you are using. A friend produces bodies for 4Gear chassis. I can’t find much other than this:

Found a few examples on eBay. Look for seller kdog2008 .

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. I am just in the planning stages of building the drag strip & it will be strictly for fun. Ideally what I'd like to do is to buy rtr chassis that are at least decent, that will run OK without having to buy a bunch of aftermarket parts & tinkering to zip down the track. As I understand it, most guys use the AW 4 Gear chassis. Or do they? Suggestions?

The Auto World 4Gear chassis is a good chassis for drag racing. The performance of each individual 4Gear chassis may vary a little more than the other brands but the chassis is also cheaper so it kind of evens itself out. Viper offers the Bracket Master which is a top of the line drag car that is compatible with the Viper body mounts that fit the SG+, Life Like and Tyco 440x2 bodies.
You can get good results out of most of the different HO slot car chassis on the market so it comes down to what you prefer.
Best regards,
Brian

Another option is the JAG Hobbies DR-1 chassis, available to fit Auto World 4 Gear and Top Fuel bodies. JAG has the separate bodies to go with the chassis.

Not planning to start a whole discussion, but with all the advances in miniature electrics and electronics, has anyone made a true HO chassis? That's 1/87th, not 1/64th? That might be a huge opportunity for making 1/87th bodies?
With all the attention AW gets since the takeover in 2007 or so, is there any advance toward actual HO (1/87th) cars to run on HO rail layouts?

It's the rail spacing. Basically the track remains unchanged since the original Playcraft/Vibrator era. The axle width cannot go any narrower. Thus the minimum hub spacing is limited. Beyond a skinny tire on bone stock rims, the scale window is immediately broken.

Hey, check that thing out! Talk about re-purposing an old Aurora Vibrator chassis.
It immediately brought to mind one of those modern electric motor drag race cars some guys are building in 1/1 scale.
Instant torque monster. Neat, clean, and simple - I like it! Very cool. Enjoy! -- Ernie :>)
