Finished!! - Winged Express

I had started building this Wild Willie Winged Express a couple months ago hoping to race it this past weekend. But things got in the way and I never got it completed. After a day of racing, I'm now pumped up to get it done before the next race. Here's where it sits as of now...

I'm using the model kit frame, so things like the motor and body should fall into place fairly easily (fingers crossed anyways  ) I did glue a brass tube across the front in which the front axle will ride in.
Our guidelines for the Gasser class require a Piranha motor and a drop arm set up. I've soldered the drop arm to a couple of short sleeves and the rear axle runs thru them. I've used this set up in a couple other cars and it seems to work ok.

Great start on that one! Cant believe the winged express is running a gasser class! He was AA/FA forever. Coolest altered driver ever, he had brass ones.

I got some paint on the body and wing. The red isn't the exact shade, but it's close enough for me. Still to get Willie in the seat, add some wheelie bars and then start the tedious task of applying all the tiny decals.

So I showed this to the guys last night along with the Buzzin Dozen car in the background, and before the night was over, it was agreed to start an Altered class. So looks like Willie will be racing where he belongs after all... :auto-layrubber:

Looks great! Does the kit have the oversized truck steering wheel?
You probably know this, but competition resins has the exact driver figure for that car.

I finally got it to a point where I'm ready to give Mr. Borsch his 1st run next month.
All that's left is to add a little weight to get it to the 4.5 oz minimum required (4.12 at it stands now).
Pretty happy with the way it came out. It's not perfect. Things like the radiator shell and the side panels under the motor are supposed to be red, and after a couple attempts, gave up on having his left arm hanging onto the body like he was famous for...

If that runs as good as it looks you will be in good shape. Wild Willy would be proud and you should too. Let us know how it does, Jim

That looks fantastic. Well done. If you get a chance, share some video of it on a run if possible.

That's a beautiful build, Dickie! Wild Willie would be proud. I recall reading about him in most of the drag racing mags during the '70s & '80s. It's hard to believe he's been gone more than 25 years. :)
