...I know,

I love them, I just like funning with the anally retentive scale purists/perfectionists that this hobby seems to attract sometimes...

Its a condition you know, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), it has its roots in the Autism spectrum of disorders. The experts think that society is making all of us a bit this way.

....Just think, in ten years time, when we see this same image on our computer screens, we could quite possibly pick up the monitor in a fit of rage and hurl it into the wall because we know that we weren't able to rectify this situation at the time....

....Just a thought :?

Rob,

You can have your OCD. I have self-diagnosed mine as SCADD. That's Slot Car Attendtion Deficit Disorder! :banana-rock:

The statement of "When we view these photos in about 10 years on our monitors" . . . . .

I'm quite wure that in 10 years there will be some sort of holograhpic imaging system that will project these photos upon some reflective surface and we will see them at least many times larger then full size.

Keep on keeping on.

The 22 and 55 cars have them. You cannot read them, they are so small..but they are there and do add to it.

Personally, I wouldn't let a little thing like a contingency sticker sway my judgement. I hope you get these cars, tune them and have fun with them with your group.

Re: Carrera Classic NASCAR Returns

Postby Florida_Slotter » Mon Dec 17, 2012 6:39 pm

My wife brought the mail in this afternoon and there was a package there from New Hampshire, just as scheduled.

When I opened it I saw the #30 "Iggy" Dodge Charger 500.

I must say this, as outstanding as Harry's posted photos are, they fail short of capturing. This is NOT to say his photos are not fantastic, it's to say that the car inside the Dum Dum equipped box from Slot Car Corner is just so awesome to see first hand.

Very quickly after it arrived, it was running laps around my Carrera "GO" U.K. Black facsimile. I was impressed with the smoothness of the car - almost as impressed as I was with the appearance of this car from Carrera.

The way that Carrera imitated the effects of drum brakes on a car of this size is just so interesting. If you've ever driven one of these cars with drum brakes, you will totally understand my statement.

Now I am looking forward with great anticipation to taking some laps on our new routed wood track. I'm hoping my Paul Gage XPG tires will arrive by Friday as that is when the first test session on the new track commences.

Great review Harry. Of course it did add to my already adequate supply of slot cars, but what the heck, you can't have too many great looking slot cars now, can you?

No sir, you cannot. :)

And for some reason I just had to come in and thank Carrera once again for these cars.

I think the braking, or the supposed lack thereof that people seem to focus on is a little harsh. They DO have brakes. No, they don't stop on a dime like they hit a wall...but they do work.

Tuning these cars for our oval proves it. One you hard wire the motor, the braking is slightly increased. They work well enough for our racing. Personally, I don't want my cars with such touchy and hard braking. I like easing into the corners and drifting through if I want.

Guess it is just me. I don't want my classic American iron to perform identical to a modern LMP. It gives them character and a style all their own.

All a matter of personal preference. AND with the low price point, if it bothers you that much then you can afford to change the motor :) Try a H&R Hawk in there.

Glad to see you liked it and look forward in seeing your tuning on them.

Harry,

I think you did not fully understand what I thought I meant to say about the brakes on the Carrera Charger.

I do not consider them a negative, but more of a positive. If you have nothing but cars right out of the box, all with the same characteristics, then the racing becomes even more fun. The brakes on the early cars - that would be before the disc era - were typically quite lacking.

BTW - along with the arrival of the Carrera Charger, I received a couple of M/T motors from Slot Car Corner and a package from Slot Car Place that had a couple of H&R Hawk motors in it. Yep, I'm prepared to set this Charger up. An order has also been sent to Paul Gage for a set of his XPG tires to put on the back of the Charger.

I am looking forward to getting some time on the new routed track and spend it running laps with the new Charger.

Thanks for your input.

Your reviews are excellent, just keep them going. It's just a wonderful thing to be able to read an honest review on new products coming down the pike. Thanks for providing such a service to us here on HRW.

As it sometimes happens, things get lost in translation :) So, my apologies for screwing things up.

The PG "R3" tires are now my favorites. They fit the wheel perfectly, have a great sidewall detail and of course grip well.

Seems you are getting into the parts collecting hobby as well. Haha. I think you will like the motors, just different but fun all the same.

We do try to cover the models the best we can. I appreciate your feedback and thoughts. Wish more would chime in. It is hard to find much fault in a simple model like these when they are priced right and look as good as they do.

And........might as well get used to seeing more Carrera reviews from me. With the prices of other brands going up and up, and the selection and scale detail going down, my hobby dollars and reviews will reflect it. We will still try and cover as much as we can for variety. But it is good to see others doing reviews here. THAT means a lot for folks out there.

Harry,

I always look forward to all the review you do. My biggest problem is resisting the temptation to buy one each of all the cars you review.

Most of my 'collection' is made up of Slot.It cars. The most predominant category is Group C. I love those cars, they run well and we race them often. The next most popular is the Classic category. My "MotorRadio" Alfa T33/3 and #8 Ford GT40 are my favorites. I do like the LMP category and as a fan of both racing and technology, I see the Audi R18 as one of the most technological cars ever produced. Talk about legitimizing "Hybrid"!!! Hey, if we can save energy and still have a fast car, then I'm all for it.

Image

Besides if I am not wrong, the Can-Am cars of the 70's, specifically the Porsche 917 cars were painted white with a blue stripe. The lettering on that stripe was "Porsche - Audi". I do believe there is a big time connection between these two automotive giants. Coule Audi be the Porsche Racing of old?

Recently I have purchased a red Carrera Cheetah, a red Carrera Cobra and the #30 Carrera Dodge Charger 500. I went on the basis of your reviews. Hopefully Dave Kennedy is taking care of his top salesman as you are doing a fantastic job for him. I totally agree with all your comments. All the cars have been fantastic and quite frankly I am salivating waiting an opportunity to get them on to the new wood track to have a whole lotta fun with each of them.

Keep on doing what you're doing as I for one find it quite information. All I need to do is figure out how I cas resist the temptation of adding another car to the collection.

You could remove that one, shoot a quick coat of white and make the decal yourself. It would work easily because it's over white.
