Yeah, I like them a lot, but I'm still disappointed at the jerky move of allowing lights only if you buy the latest trendy thing for more money. They had lights for years before that digital stuff started.

Rob, I am glad we have a lower cost option.

Look at the MSRP of Scalextric now. We are lucky some dealers are being kind as they are over $50.00. And the latest NINCO1 model in the review section has lights, but NO interior and still a 50 dollar bill or more.

I like lights, but I like having a lower cost model available for those on tighter budgets...like mine.

The bright, almost Ferrari Red car is a stunner in the other photos I've found. At one time or another it had white, white and blue, and white and yellow on the stripe. I like the blood red and silver stripe a lot. And the silver with a blue field in front, too.

Have you noticed the differences in the rear roof pillar engine cooling scoops? They were in different places and at least three sizes. That may be some of the minimal changes to the car when the 6 cylinder engine was installed. I assume the exhaust differences come from that, too.

And Dave, I go back 52 years with slot cars. Believe me, 2005 is very new as far as I see. If the digital unit had the same connectors in the same positions, so that the chip plate could be bypassed and removed and the lights reconnected as can be done with the motor leads, the conversation never would have started. Lots of people want to buy the chips I have no use for, but I can't sell them because the car is built specifically to make it impossible to use the lights without the chipset. For this car, because I will have several of them, I bought the unlighted versions. Not a decision I enjoyed. All this has been said before. It doesn't change the fact that it is disappointing for us consumers.

The olive green is hot, hot, hot. Some cars just make it work. Dodge used a metallic olive green on their 1995 Avenger, and it looked fantastic.

I also wish that Carrera was releasing its analog cars with lights, but sometimes you just have to bow to reality. With costs increasing, removing the lights puts them a big step ahead of the competition. Our LHS had this car for 35 bucks, and that can't be beaten for a new release.

LEB has them for $33.95, that's where I got mine.

That olive green works on some cars, its true, even if I don't like it (I keep thinking an olive green machine should have white US Army nomenclature stenciling on it and a big white star- I was born in the Army). But I saw an olive green car trimmed in bright silver that looked crappy, but another one trimmed in a champagne gold looked great.

I counted all the chips I could sell before I found out the lights don't work after the chip is removed, and I could sell 23 of them at $12-$15 each, maybe more. Disappointing. Even if I sold them cheap in order to sell them all at once it would be over $200. Think of the slot cars that would buy!

I think the first orange was introduced in 57-59. Based on the color in the photo, my best guess is either Continental Orange or Blutorange.
