What a good idea.
Soldering those tiny motor tabs always gives me the willies (hope this doesn't translate into something rude in its Atlantic crossing!) - even worse is unsoldering and cleaning up!

Along these lines you can get a silicone jacketed wire that makes a nice motor lead in the R/C section of your hobby shop. Sometimes it hard to find one fine enough for slot cars, but when you do it's about 10 times that length for the same price & you have your choice of colors. Red, black, Blue, Etc.
The little Ferrules (or whatever you call them?)? Those can be found in the R/C airplane section sometimes; I am not sure quite what they use them for?? Lining the holes are linkages and wire's I think, but again 10 or 12 are usually a couple bucks.
While I am at it if you use allot of lead to weigh your cars, they have that in the airplane area as well and it's double the size of the other packs you might find in the hobby store (Example: pine wood derby section) for 1/2 the price!!
There hope that helps you slot on a budget!!! ;-)
