"Scalextric staked their claim to this beloved racing era with their 1967 ‘Year of Legends’ set, and did such a good job with the late 1960’s open-wheelers, that nobody else has really ventured into this territory."

Thanks for reminding me, David -- I tend to forget what I've written. I write the article, tie it to a rock, and throw it out the window. By the time the rock hits the ground, I've forgotten what's on the page.
Hey Lee, glad you picked up on that. I'm not 100% sure that it's a 'cause and effect' thing, even though I wrote it that way. I don't know that other companies are scared off of the old open-wheelers because Scalextric did them so well. It may be that they've just had plans for other cars besides the old open-wheelers, and didn't choose to go down that road. But at this point, it would be a tough challenge to make, sort of like challenging Carrera with their 'winged warriors' stockers.
Thanks guys, glad you liked it (or bits of it). :)
