Importance of basic Tuning

So I acquired a Slot it Kenwood 962 off the net, low to no miles. Beautiful car. Most times a slot it requires very little to run nicely on my small Carrera track, This one was an exception.
It ran like the proverbial lumber wagon with concrete wheels - Bad doesn't begin to describe it, bummed out but started checking things over.
The front tires on this thing looked like they had broken belts like a radial tire would do! I pulled the tires off and laughed cuz there were lumps the size of a BB from the casting sprues on the center flanges. Not having any fancy tools a quick trim and file on the wheels , reinstall the tires, a drop of lube, adjust the braids and a little body float and Totally different car, smooth, fast and quiet.
Moral of the story; little details really matter.
