Chassis-wise, had to fix the front axle in ride height by building an axle holder with 5/32" styrene tubing and two-part epoxy. The PCS chassis front axle carrier allows too much up and down movement so the tires foul on the body's front wheelarches.

Image

Added a .063" lead slab in the cavity under the motor for some weight to compensate for the top heaviness of the body.

Image

The 23K green endbell motor was too much so in went a stock Scalextric motor. Also swapped out the SCX 9t pinion gear with a Scalextric one. More driveable and quiet now.

Looks good and drives well enough for me.

Done!

I hope there's a small adjustable wheelbase chassis coming up.

Dan,

I bought one of those but I'm struggling with the rear wheel opening. There's little to no margin for error when mounting the chassis. I don't want to cut the fenders and risk junking the body. I guess I'll just have to go for it.

Well, now that I go back and look closer at your photos, yours may be from another maker. Your wheels look much bigger than mine.

Bruce,

I used Slot It Ferrari 312 rear rims, 15 x 8 I believe, with Ninco F1 front re-pop urethane tires, so they fill the wheel arches pretty much.

The outrigger body mounting method allows me to adjust the wheel to body clearance. I just place shims between the outrigger and chassis to achieve the spacing and look.

Works for me.

Been getting good results with metal chassis for little cars, so I just put together another for this build.

It incorporates adjustable wheelbase and my first use of the Slotworx (Australia) brackets much like the no longer available BWA ones. Not as crisply stamped but quite acceptable.

I have four of them in mid-construction. Now I'm getting back into gear again after a long pause in neutral, I'll be finishing them up. I'm using four different chassis designs and wheels combinations, but the Slot.it wheels are some I completely missed.

What a timely update on your Mini pickup, I seem to have acquired one of those bodies of late, and since it only took about 1 minute to trim out the windows I was inspired to get building. Then i remembered I had decals to put on my LSR Studebaker and gasser Topolino, so did that instead. It won't take long to get back to that Mini. The two part mould Steve uses sure makes a nice body. Mine will use a D3D pod and brass chassis.

Will it be done for Concours this weekend?

Chassis's assembled.

Image

Image

Parts list includes Scalextric 20k slimline motor, Scalextric 9t pinion, SCX Pro 27t crown, Ranch Design wheels, BWA BRM wheel inserts, Paul Gage tires - front, Luf urethanes - rear, Scale Auto guide.

Body's mounted too.

The rear drive look is kept.

Runs well with a little backing off of the body mounting screws.

Just need to put driver tray back in, apply some paint touch ups and we're done.

That is a great idea with the 312 wheels. I have built one of the Mini's for SLOP Proxy this year (if we pick a start date). I used a PCS 32 chassis, but not sure I'm sticking with that. Seems to sit high even though my clearance for the wheels seems right. I'll have to toss up some pics.

That pickup looks good enough to eat!

Headlights look a bit bulbous; do they actually work?

Thanks also for the info on Slotworx brackets.

All done now. Headlight lenses are really bulbous but that's what was readily available in the parts box.

Ran it on Luf's Targa Burnaby yesterday, a track with severe elevation changes and it took a beating. Scraped a lot of paint and lost a wheel insert. Oh well, that's the consequence of racing.

Onto the next build.
