Radical A off the 3D printer

After over forty hours of mouse work on the computer I was finally able to start printing out a chassis for the Radical A.

I didn't like the first chassis after I printed it out so I went back to the computer and mouse. It didn't help any when the little missus said the rear spoiler looked like a Snowblower.
It took about as long to clean out the support material as it did to print the chassis. It took over two hours to print.Image

Put one coat of paint on as a sealer and now starts the task of assembly.Image
I couldn't resist, had to do a quick model of my 4.6 dohc and print in the chassis along with a set of headers.
then I used some double 0-90 screws to hold the motor in place on the other side. This should also help support the chassis. Besides the cobra engine power is by piranha with slotit gears, CB wheels, PG tires. I may have to add more to the intake so it looks more like a cobra for my son said it looked like a corvette engine.

I could take some more weight out of the chassis but I wanted to keep the CG low so I added some weight. Either way, 71.4 grams is acceptable for me.Image
Now to go paint the body and fit a driver in the chassis. Some may ask why ground effects on a Model A? Well it is Indy season you know and I still manage to get caught up in it every year.

Got the body painted and trimmed.Image
Now all I have to do is get the Driver fitted and installed. Then I need to get the flag sorted out. I used a different flag that I normally do and I think that I might have made a mistake in soldering the motor leads to the brushes.

This was a real fun build. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I'm not so sure that 3D printers might not be what we rely on in the future, at least for some parts. Parma and other suppliers seem to be distracted from the business.
I'm a little worried going into the future. Could be that 3D printing keeps us afloat.
