Set the time machine for 1979...

Postby turbokev » Wed Nov 26, 2014 2:51 pm

Here's a blast from the past... My wife and I were talking about 'old' electronic games we had as kids and I told
her about this awesome looking globe that powered on when you rolled the dome back.. but I couldn't remember
for the life of me what it was called. That night I started doing searches for things like "blue dome game',
'transparent blue lid', 'classic electronic game' etc and finally I found an image of it.. One thing led to another and
I found one in mint condition for sale on ebay by the original owner.. A girl who got it for Christmas in 1979.

I give you my $2.99 purchase.... "Computer Perfection"

It was a little sketchy at first..kept shutting off as soon as you touched anything, but games of this era were
not particularly complicated.. I cleaned this little switch and it's been good to go all afternoon~

My kids are facinated by it.. It plays 4 different games on 3 different skill levels.. it's like having 12 apps! LOL

Just thought I'd share a little bit of electronic game history with you this afternoon~

My first reaction is "that's nice but what's it do?" But I do love the early 'computer age' games. I never had anything of the sort, but my friend had "Simon" which I was fascinated by.

I do still have my first video game here somewhere. 5 different renditions of pong in black and white. :)

Love it! I still have my Merlin, my original Mattel Football 2 (the green one), and just got rid of my Atari 2600 a few years ago. The goodnews is that now there is an Atari Flashback 5 with 90 games and wireless controllers - all for $39...guess what I'm getting for Christmas! Old school rules!

Ember.. It does 4 different puzzle games.. like you press the 1 and the 7 flashes.. then you press the 2 and the 0 flashes and if you press what makes the #1 flash, it stays lit.. then you have to find the #2 etc. At the end, it tells you how many moves it took you. There's also a 'Simon' game built in wher eyou have to repeat what it flashes starting with 1 symbol.. tougher than Simon due to having 10 buttons instead of 4. My boys are having a blast with it..

That is very cool.

I saw at our local Dollar General they have the flashback game systems...one of them is the one I had. Intellivision!

It was a great console. I remember playing football and baseball for many hours.

I had an Intellivision set, but I think it was the next generation to that as the graphics were better. It was re-badged here by one of the local electronics and components chain as the Wizard. My favourite game was one called "Mouse Puzzle." Still love it. Got a new one in a box somewhere at Mum's place. It was bought for spare parts.
