Each time I see Harry's signature line -



My memory goes back to a story I had read about Smokey many years ago. He was challenged on the work done on the ports in his "Hudson Hornet". He simply answered, "You said I could not port and polish, but you never said anything about drawing a mixture of sand and water through them."

I also remember reading where Big Bill France parked said Hudson Hornet and surrounded it by grandstands filled with race fans. Bill's goal was to have all those fans watch Smokey to make sure he wasn't cheating. Smokey said that he was able to get every illegal piece into the new motor while the fans watched. Perhaps Smokey also had a bit of "the hand is quicker then the eye" in his makeup?

Unfortunately, a fire in Daytona Beach burned down "The Best Damn Garage in Town" a few years back. What a shame!

So what is your favorite line associated with racing? Perhaps one from a movie is your favorite. Let us know.

Not as earth shattering as Smokey's, but I can think of two that apply to most of us racers here:

1. Damn! I should have changed the braid before qualifying!
2. Damn! I should have changed the tires before the race!

Oh, and just one more, especially for us "pancake motor" HO racers:
