It was a bad day indeed. When I was growing up in NW Indiana I would run home from school in April and may to check out the Indy news. For some reason I still think he was the first to race the rear engine Indy car and he could sure get that car to really fly around that track. Then the last weekend in May I would get out the Eldon track, set it up in an oval, turn on the radio and run my Eldon Indy cars while listening to the race live. The younger generation now don't believe me when I tell them that the radio announcer would say the cars would slow down to 75 mph for the turns.
