Nothing stops a build project faster than a toy box in the mail :)

Cool stuff. These always were fun.

Okay, Dave, here's the poop on these things. We ran an IROC with them (the best series we ever tried), and the most important thing we did was swap the motors for Tomy Tiger motors. You get better brakes, faster acceleration, and better top end. All you have to do is cut a bit off the motor shaft end. The PGT tires are available, as are Supertire Yellow Dogs. Either one will make them do stuff you never thought they would do!

The cars are available in the exact colors of a standard 4 lane track, green, red, yellow, and blue. I think I wound up with a few duplicates if you want to trade some bodies. I'll have to check.

If you haven't done so already we have found that if you loosen the screw underneath the driver the Karts go a bit better. It is a matter of playing around to get the sweet spot.

ps where would I find Tomy Tiger motors??

cheers

I always found the karts a little bit under powered so like DM would like to know what they could be replaced with.

They are a bit like Ninco NC-1 cars - when we race them we find the racing quite close and they are quite a lot of fun.

When Ninco announced they were releasing new liveries on their Karts I was hoping they would bring out new Super Karts as well as I prefer the look of them to the regular karts.

The Tomy motors we used seem to have dried up. I looked all over to no avail. This what happens when you get old. You recommend something only to discover you have the only ones left on the planet.

But the Tomy AFX series has the box type motors, called Tomy Turbos. I got a bagful of box motors a few years back on Electronic Goldmine, and I have seen them on All Electronics, too. Neither have them now, I checked. The trick is to get the torque correct. The little box motors are usually used where consistent rpm is more important than torque.

I should mention that with these carts, the gear mesh can be maddening. There's almost no room for adjustment, and the long cone pinion can get out of position on the motor shaft. Its best, if you need to adjust the mesh, to use a spacer on the axle rather than get into the gears' position on the axle or motor shafts.
