Thanks John, you are on the same wave length, thinking about getting that oval in when everything is
cleaned up and out. Funny you should mention boats, i was thinking about a submarine last night.

Just a little note, my dad used to work on wells on the side when he was younger. I remember the sump pump he modified so that he didn't have to wait. He put a 1/2 hp motor on it and changed the outlet hose to 1-1/4". Man would that thing move some water. :)

Bob, sorry to hear about the flooding. Had that happen before here. I didn't loose any slot stuff though. I can only say that the people on this site are the best. Willing to work on your cars and more. You are indeed blessed.

Well I just found one of those expandable plugs , as you tighten the nut it gets squished and becomes fatter. So it comes in 3 in and 4 in.
I am going to get it and put it in the floor drain to stop the backup until I can install a one way valve in the summer. This should stop the water coming in , then I can just concentrate on getting it out.
There is not much pressure so iam hopi gmit will just close off the easiest path and make the water stay in the ditch.
Heres hoping

Hi Noah;

Good to hear you are coping with the flood over there. You will need to build an ark, and line up your cars two by two to float them high and dry until the water recedes. Then you would have a really good reason to go get drunk, eh?

Enough of the Biblical comparison. Hope you have the water stopped now, Bob, and good luck with the cleanup.

Cheers Keith.
The water has slowed considerably but im guessing I've pumped about 2500 gals so far.
Once its dry enough I will see about getting a contractor in to gut and remove the basement walls and floor's, right back to concrete.
Then mold remediation, there is a new spray product out now that kills and prevents return of mold.
It used to be the old bleach and water trick, but that only killed it, this new stuff also stop it from coming back.
I think I will also look at getting a sump hole put in although it wont stop the water coming in, it will make it easier to get rid of it before it floods.
Now to get heaters in the hobby room area to start drying things up.
I have some wonderful offers from members to help with the cleaning and repair of the damaged cars.
Where else but HRW would you find this kind of act from your community.
Thanks to all.

Be careful with the plugs, my dad had one blow out. Fortunately it hit joist and not between them. It took a good chunk out of the joist and had to be repaired.

2016 getting off on the wrong foot

Postby watchticktock » Sat Jan 16, 2016 12:01 pm

Hi Bob,

That's some bad news for sure.
To be cheeky, ask your insurance company to prove the existence of god before dismissing your claim as an act of god. ;) Joking.

I like that one.

Bob, did you find a blockage in the culvert? Its damned dangerous when there is pressure behind a plug. One end of the pipe may suck you down, the other may beat you to death against the inside of the pipe. Sometimes, fire departments will come break a clog free with their equipment when there's property damage like yours. Its pretty spectacular to watch, and a lot safer.

Well believe it or not I went away overnight to race in The Snowy City of Barrie.
I needed the break so, it was a nice change. Sorting cars was a challenge as most of my regular racers were submerged, but Only 2 o f the 4 classes were affected.
My Classic Stock Car is David Pearsons ( Carrera ) on a metal chassis .
Didnt do so well , and my Classic Lemans ( SRC Porsche ) ran okay , but not like it used too.
My Resin Matra made the podium , and my Grp C slot it was one step down from the podium , but it was very close, any way had fun.
The pump is still running by the floor drain , so the seal cant be perfect.
But things continue to dry up.Tomorrow more stuff gets moved upstairs , so, that Tuesday I'm ready for the contractors.
I dont think there is a blockage as I used the drain innthe fall and it was fine, just the level of ground water is causing the issue. I think a sump hole and pump setup will resolve the issue though.
Anyway lads onwards and upwards. Appreciate all the support from you guys.
Thanks
Bob

If you go with a sump pump, put in a 2nd pump with alarm so that the second pump will only run when the main one fails. The alarm will let you know when you need to check things out instead of when you have water in your basement. We also installed a battery backup power supply so that if power went out, the pump would still work. These were things that I never would have thought of at the time.
