Yes, it was one of the bloodiest battles in human history- one million dead in a single 6 month battle. The Battle of the Somme. We learned about it in detail in military school.
Meanwhile, as I said on the other post about Canada Day, the years I lived in Canada as a boy were wonderful. One day I was crabbin' and flounder giggin' in the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana, the next day we lived in London, Ontario, which at the time was a lovely, pretty city full of very nice people who treated this bayou boy so well, you would have thought I was lost family. Incredibly, I recently reconnected with one of those kids from London on Linked In. Turns out she's a famous author and scientist. How 'bout that!
