What a Great Movie!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of watching the 1966 movie "Grand Prix".

What ane awesome movie. A time of men vs machine without many safety features. I simply smile when you see the racer's head about 2 inches above a single piece of 30 mm tubing! :o

But the sound track is just so goose flesh inspiring! Those V-8 motors approaching 10,000 rpm and growling off of a tight turn, rather than like a 22,000 rpm motorcycle is just so refreshing.

Of course the advances in crowd safety has made many advancements.

I watched it not long ago myself for the very first time. Oddly enough, i watched it just after seeing the BBC documentary "Grand Prix: The Killer Years." The film does cover what was happening in the sport at the time very well. I'll be watching it often.

It was also fun picking out all of the real drivers in it. As well as the real drivers that the fictional ones were based upon.

Grand Prix is a great movie. I seen it when it first came to the theaters, and have seen it several more times over the years. Le Mans is good too. I recently watched The Worlds Fastest Indian. It was very good, different kind of racing, but still very good. :)

Now if we can get Scalextric to come out with, "Grand Prix 50 Years Later" set with all the cars in the movie.

One of my favorite movies...had it on VHS and got it on DVD as soon as it came out. I was fortunate enough to see it in Cinerama when it first came out; I will never forget the goosebumps I got at the opening when you are looking at that black screen and...ROAR!...you were looking up the exhaust of an engine coming to life! The scene at the Ferrari factory alone is worth the price of admission......the cars in background that are famous collector's items today were just "cars on the line" (if you can say that about a Ferrari). I watch my copy on a regular basis, and yes, Marty, the home theater sound system is a big plus!

Yeah, that crash scene at Zandvoort is brutal. Purley makes a bold attempt to rescue Williamson from his inverted burning car while other cars race by and spectators and corner marshals watch dazed.

I know there are a lot of folk that don't think particularly fondly of wee Jackie, but he certainly has a legacy to be proud of.

I'm still rolling my eyes and stuttering from Marty's suggestion! They might actually get me to pay a higher price without my usual b*tching if they produced the whole field, or at least all the cars from the movie. Wow!

If you have the DVD...watch the extras. The interviews with Frankenheimer and the cast are fantastic.

If you liked GP - you'll like Rush - excellent racing movie as well.
