Jeremy, that last comment is frightening coming from a guy who lives in the middle of the West Tennessee Thunder Road (the Triangle-Memphis, Selmer, Union City). There's one in East Tennessee, too. Elements of both were in the movie.

Thunder Road was about running Shine from Johnson City(Where I live) to Asheville
and Knoxville then on to Memphis. The wreck at the end of the movie was taken
from an actual event that occurred just north of Knoxville. The Shine came from
Roan Mountain in North Carolina which is where it still comes from to this day. Don't
ask how I know....Also Robert Mitchum sang the theme song for the movie.

[EDIT] to add. I've ridden most of what's left of the run to Asheville and to Knoxville.
Those runners we either very brave or extremely stupid. Some of the drops of were
as high as 1000ft. with no guardrails and only a curb about 8" tall. I ran it a few times
before guard rails were installed, it's pretty scary even with guardrails. I've manage 98
mph on one run with my Steeda 'Stang which is a way better car than they had.

Yep, that's the East Tennessee Triangle, Jesla. Bruce knew a lot about the history, too, I think I remember. There was something about Sweetwater and Chattanooga, too, but I can't remember.
