Boy does this bring back memories of the late 60s with trips to Virginia Beach and going to Peabody's Warehouse. All day long you could hear the sounds of The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean from the cars on Atlantic Ave as they drove slowly down the strip and at night you could go to the Almost World's Famous Peabody's Warehouse and listen live to the beach tunes of Bill Deal and the Rondells. Add a little Booker T and the MGs and what more could you want. A much younger version of me was arrested in 1968 coming back from a party riding in my MGA and I was devoid of clothing. Lucky for me that many of the Summer Cops were actually Law Students, not much older and who liked to have fun as much as I did. Next morning I was released, given a bed sheet to cover my short comings and driven to my MGA where I drove to the Motel in much shame.

The Beach Boys appeared, in their current iteration, at the Ventura County Fair last year. My daughter, who is now 14 thought they were one of the best bands she had heard. They sounded great even without many of the original members left. John Stamos from Full house fame played drums for them as he has for many years when he had the free time. I worked with John years ago and it was really fun to see them with him playing drums again.

They are coming back to the fair this year and my daughter has already said she really wants to go again.

We'll be surfing off the point at C street either before or after the show in their honor.

For you guys not on the coast; "She's real fine my 409". "So I saved my pennies and I saved my dimes before I knew there would be a time when I would buy a brand new 409" C'mon everybody sing it with me now. :auto-driving:

They've not had a good history with performances in Australia. I wasn't old enough to see the first disastrous tour. However I was excited to see them 20 odd years ago when they toured here with Stamos guesting on drums at the time (I think he's an official member now, isn't he?). At the time I think it was still original members, with the obvious exception. I'm afraid the show that I saw was not a good one.

But I do still love their music from the day and occasionally dig the CDs out of my collection for a bit of an aural binge.

I have the original "Endless Summer" album many of the greats on there.
My in car MP3 player has: Little Deuce Coupe, 409, Shut Down, Fun/Fun/Fun, Surfin Safari, Surfer Girl, Sloop John B, Barbra Ann and additionally Drag City, Dead Man's Curve, Little Old Lady From Pasadena, Surf City, Spring Little Cobra, Little GTO. Plenty of beach and car music. But I still say the best way to listen is on 8-Track!
