Hello Homeracingworld...

Postby cantstopnow » Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:34 am

It's been a while since I have posted. Well last time I was active here I was finishing up my routed track called "Grey Wolf Raceway". I was running my own contracting bussiness in home remolding and my Wife Doni was just recovering from a digestive illness that almost took her life. We where hoping that the worst was behind us at that point, That was Oct 2011. Well, We where wrong.
I was called to a meeting at the company I had contracted with for 9 years one week before Thanksgivng to find out that they where no longer useing contractors and all work was now in house. That was a blow that was hard to take. All I could do was put out an add and see what I could do. Also at this time our doctor informed us that my Wife Doni had Lewy Body Dementea, A fatal illness that had no treatment or cure. We where told that it was time to get our affairs in order. To say that last winter was hard is an understament. We took one day at a time. I kept trying to contract, but at 49 it wasent easy. I ended up almost tearing my left rotator cuff and not being able to finish a sheetrock job. We where also dealing with doctors and test trying to see what we could do to help my Wife. Medical debt building up and work going down is not a good combo. Things where not looking good, but we still had each other. Well, I did get a call from a property management company looking for a good sevice tech. I told them that I could not contract with them, but I would come to work for them as a employee. Found out that is what they where hoping I would say. I had very good refs. Man did that take a load off. About this time we also got a new doctor for my wife, who sent her out for a alot of tests. My birthday was Dec 12, for my birthday we where told that Doni does have some memerey issues, but does not have lewy body dementia!!! They are still doing test but that news was a godsend. We are just now starting to get back to a normal life. a steady paycheck and knowing that we still have each other for a while yet. Last year was hard, but the road ahead looks bright and should be able to be back here in my hobby.

Thanks for reading, Glad to be back to the best slot forum around, John W.

Welcome back John,

A "normal" life is the best thing in the world, I think sometimes we forget that.
I hope that things are "nice and normal" for you both from here on Mate.

John W.

Glad to see you back at HRW and glad to hear your wife will still be around.

I can only imagine what you were going through when the doctor provided you with his prognosis. I'm glad you found a doctor that actually found out your wife's condition was not terminal, but treatable.

Looking forward to seeing what you've got going on.

Hi John- When folks aren't on HRW for a long time, I always wonder what happened and hope its not something awful. I was startled to see that Lewy Bodies came up, as it is really rare, and not much is known about it. In fact, the only way to confirm the diagnosis is an autopsy and microscopic exam of brain tissue. The only reason I know anything about it is that it was one of the possible explanations for my father's psychotic episodes earlier this year after his stroke. It turned out to be a drug side effect, and after we narrowed it down to that, it was an easy fix by simply changing his meds.

Good to have you back, and I hope you will see that brighter future together.

And that's from a guy who knows a lot about rotator cuff injury! Of course, he thinks Dum-Dums are pain meds, but you understand...

Hey, I live it so I can teach others through my experiences...

And what do you mean that Dum-Dums aren't pain meds?

Thanks for sharing your story. It makes us realize that we are human and there are greater things in life. Having said that, I have found I am doubling down on the hobby since it has helped see me through the bad times too. Wishing you good cheer for the new year and continued good news.

Glad to hear things are looking up for you and your wife. I don't take much stock in doctors. Most of them want to throw you a handful of pills thinking that will take care of everything, and the drugs companies actually don't make a thing that cures anything. If it cured things they would be out of business, think about it. :)

Thanks for the well wishes guys! This really has changed the way we look at doctors, There are alot that just want to throw meds at you, We don't need those kind in our life. You sure get a funny look when you tell them you don't want them as your doc,LOL.
Doni is at a good point now, It is so nice to hear her laugh and see that smile I love so much. Seeing her up and around doing the things she loves. This whole last two years has really changed how I look at life. I am working on removing the stress in my life. You know, don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoying my slot car hobby and looking forward to get back to racing with the club. I have gone a few times lately, just letting the new job catch up on some bills.

Thank Guys, John W.
