2016 getting off on the wrong foot

Bob let me know if I can help, we went through the same thing in the basement "NOT COVERED" At this time I'm replacing the living room ceiling due to a roof leak, yup you guessed it "NOT COVERED", amazing how they can refuse a claim as fast as they take the premiums. My claims adjuster had the nerve to tell me my refused claim will not affect my insurance, boy was he wrong were finished with them, seems to me it affected my insurance policy with them 100% :angry-tappingfoot:

There was a TIMELY TV news story on flood insurance as we in the Midwest experienced our own
10" rainfall.....It was explained that even with flood insurance, "ground water" or sewer drain
backups are NOT COVERED.....................It pays to read coverage before signing I guess...

Very True Steve, at best mine was the floor drain backing up.
It drains to, the ditch infront of the house, which was almost overflowing and the water
came in from the ditch rather than the other way round.
Mine is minor to those of you down in the southern mid states so I can only feel for you.
It will eventually get looked after. I will find a way of ensuring the floor drain is higher than the ditch water in future. This was a first, and after 14 yrs in the house and just putting that fancy damp proof wood floor in. It floats to by the way.
I can certainly move my slot stuff and salvage what I can, and replace bits and pieces.
I will need the contractors to gut the basement and the floor which isnt a yr old yet.
Oh well life goes on.

Hey Bob,
Sorry to hear about the flood. Hope you recover your slot car stuff. Will your track handle the dampness? Guess this will delay your trip south. I had some water issues (slow leak with heavy rain behind drywall = mold!) in my finished basement and decided to return most of it to its original state, less hassle and worry.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. Had the same thing happen to us when the wife and I first got out of the service and were living in northwest Indiana. Hope the best of luck to you and wish there was something I could do to help but I can at least wish you luck.

Thanks guys your a one in a million bunch.
Harry it will delay me im afraid.
I have to get rid of all the construction materials like wood floors , walls and studs and insulation.
I suppose one good thing is it will give me a clean slate to start with.
The mdf track will likely swell in the next while, but I've bumped up, the heat and bought a 2nd dehumidifier today. I think a lot of my hobby stuff may be salvagable, as I have moved the soaked stuff upstairs, the damp will get moved tonight and tomorrow.

Very sorry to hear about your flood. I too had a flooding incident in the basement. Bobby and craft stores sell those little silica balls in larger packs, for drying flowers. I didn't go that route because I found out about those later. We had several boxes/bags of rice. I threw those in a plastic container with the wet stuff to help draw the water out.

Sorry about your flooding and the aftermath that you have to deal with now. About 5 years ago, I stepped into the basement into water. The sump pump died overnight and had to call somebody in to drain the basement. They removed a little over 500 gallons of water. We remove carpet and replaced drywall. We took out a wall in the process so that I had one large room instead of two small ones. I threw out a bunch of old slot car track but thankfully my cars were above water.

Well I just went down stairs again, and the water is still coming in.
I was putting it into the cistern , but its full , so now it goes out the basement window and hopefully not back into the basement again. Man I cant believe this. Its like a viciuos circle.
In the morning I will check the ditch level and hope it has gone down, or find out if a culvert is blocked.
Im using a bigger pump and hose so it is removing it a lot faster now.
She's all fun and games boys , but I will beat this thing .
Thanks pastor for the parallel, knowing others have been there sheds light at the end of the tunnel.
Well talk to you in the morning lads. By the wat we are now having a pre blizzard blizzard on the island .The big one is supposed to hit in the morning .

Bob - Aw man that sucks. Keep your chin up, even though we love our slot cars and it is a pain to rehab the house, it is just "stuff". You're ok, and that's most important.

If this is the track we are using for the T/A proxy - we can reschedule or cancel there. I hate to impose with all of that going on!
