You guys are making me jealous.

Winter snowstorms can be magical, especially if you don't have to go anywhere. After teaching for twelve years in the high Arctic of Canada, and then living for thirty in northern BC, I miss the snow now that I live in the Vancouver area.

We've had one snowfall this year, less than half an inch that was there is the morning and gone by noon. At least the local mountains got snow, so the skiing is good this year. Last year was a wash.

Put a log on the fire, pour yourself a wee dram, and sit back and enjoy.

Its so bad here in Ocean County NJ the POST OFFICE IS CLOSED!!! 1ST time in 20 plus years!!! But seriously stay at home if you are in the affected areas, I want to continue reading all of your great posts!

Central new jersey getting CLOBBERED and wordt of storm not hitting till later today
Gonna go shovel a path for the dog, but with the wind dont expect it to last long. Everybody stay safe.

16 inches and falling still. In fact, its snowing harder now than ever. The total for sleet is 3 inches, but it went right through the snow so you really don't know its there. The wind is saving people's roofs. Gusts blow up huge clouds of white, and the snow drops 2 inches at a time off every roof. My roof only has about 4 inches, and my shop maybe 2-3, but the garbage can is a solid 16 inches in a protected area in between where the wind doesn't get through.

We had 14 inches when I went out this morning. Main roads in Salem VA were almost bare. Not much blowing or snow falling now and we had no sleet.
This weather reminds me of growing up in Lake Milton Ohio

As a life-long Buffalo resident I can say I've seen it all.
My wife and I are spending some time in Florida and it's cold down here.

Hello to all my fellow snow bound slot heads,
Thanks for sharing all the photos, wish I could do the same... but we won't go down that road again! Anyway, it's been snowing here on Long Island's south shore for almost 14 hours, and it's supposed to continue for at least another 12! Well over a foot accumulated so far, and thankfully the winds haven't been as bad as predicted. The snow that has fallen is the light and fluffy type, so the first shoveling out from the house was fairly easy. Hoping whatever else we get is more of the same. Fortunately, the temperatures are supposed to keep going up from the 30's to the 40's by tomorrow. That's good news! The bad news - I've got no running slot car track to play around with during all this, and it's killing me! Every since I was a kid, I just LOVE to run slot cars (especially my vintage Aurora HO stuff) while the snow flies. Used to bundle up and walk a block or two carrying my Aurora Pit Kit full of HO cars to my friend's houses so we could spend the day racing, and of course enjoy the peanut butter/jelly sandwiches and hot chocolate prepared for us by their Moms! Was that really over 50 years ago? So instead of racing, for this weekend I'm satisfying that winter storm racing urge by continuing to prepare merchandise for the annual Super Bowl Sunday Slot Car Show happening here in a few weeks.

Well I don't have any pics and all I know it's a whole helluva lotta snow! My company is salting/plowing a very large retirement community about 10 minutes north of Baltimore. We got here at 4pm yesterday and worked all night. It's been a loosing battle the whole way with 10 plow trucks, 4 loaders, 20+ shovelers etc. We are trying to make the end cleanup as easy as possible when this thing finally stops. We have been at this now for 23 1/2 hours and we are all finally laying the seats back and closing our eyes for a while.
I thought snow was supposed to fall not blow straight across!!
Can't wait til it's over!

In Western MA we usually average 5-10 feet of snow a year....Coming to the end of January, we've had less that an inch. My lawn is GREEN! The storm is moving towards eastern MA and Boston, just missing the area I live in, by about 20 miles. For those that aren't accustomed to snow like this, be safe.

Well not much to add to this except , if you have heat and food, sit tight.
The snow will end and the temps are due to go up this coming week.
I remember as a young officer stopping a chap driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
I asked him why he was diving so fast in the bad conditions , and of course he told me he had 4 wheel drive. So I asked him how mamy of his wheels had brakes , he smiled and said all four.
I asked him how many of the wheels on my Ford Victoria had brakes , he sheepishly said all four.
He understood then that 4 wd may help him get out of deep snow better than 2 wd but there was no difference when braking.
