The amount of outright ball busting that goes on at any of my road racing, oval track or drag racing nights around here, regardless of scale, is amazing. Each group has it's favorite guy(s) to get on, or favorite degrading quote to keep grinding in at the appropriate time. Whether it be blatant rule infractions, inferred lack of car building/driving skills, or just good old chicken sh*t insults (a favorite among the drag racing guys), it's all in good fun. I've found that like a good card game among friends, the less it's about money and the more it's just about friends having fun, the more smiles there are on the faces of the racers involved. Yes, I enjoy the excitement of being involved in a race or racing series governed by a specific set of rules, with points, trophies, and maybe a little cash at the end of the event, but that doesn't mean I can't have a good time participating in an event without some or all of those things being attached to it. Unfortunately, I've seen large scale drag guys nearly coming to blows in arguments over who will ultimately win hundreds (or sometimes thousands) of dollars in cash at the event's conclusion. I've also been told to "mind my own f**king business" when I remind them "we're here to have fun, guys" (unfortunately, some are there only for the cash). Whatever.
I say, get together with your buddies and enjoy the hobby for what it is... model car racing FUN!!! -- Ernie :>)

I remember those guys at the drags... Iceholes, every one of them. You notice not one of them ever made it to Nationals... But the guy who would lend you an engine, or slicks when yours went bad, always went farther, and had more class than them. Every time.

Just to clarify, when I said large scale drag guys I meant 1/24 scale slot cars, not 1/1 scale that we get in and drive... Ernie :>)

LOL!

When our little slot car group was going, we all had our specific thing to get jumped on to the hilarity of everyone. For me it was gear noise because I used an old Revell steel crown gear on one of mine and it sounded like the car was grinding glass. For Jenny, the Nerf Queen, the tag is obvious, Rocky liked the body screws on his cars to be so loose they fell out from time to time, etc. Funny how long after the group broke up, the fun times are still fresh in the memory.

We used to count, "1,2,3, go" after a track call to get started again. Once, when Nelson was being patronizing to my younger son who was taking his turn at the track controls and computer, asking him about whether he learned to count from Sesame St. (my son was around 27 at the time, youngest except for Jenny), called out "One- nelsonsana**hole, Two, nelsonsana**hole, Three, nelsonsana**hole, GO! Nelson was laughing too hard to start and lost position all the way to the back. Nelson is a huge guy, easily 6'-7" and built for combat, seeing him nearly falling down laughing while holding his controller in his hand, pulling the clips off and hanging on to the side of the track is something I won't forget soon.
