Seriously though...I do not like being told those types of things by someone who's a qualified "XYZ". I think most real men know how to treat their wives and children and do not allow things to interfere with them.

My slot cars are a get-away as most of us use them for. Relaxation, some "turn off the brain time", work with my hands, run laps where you actually zone out and just listen to the cars - I love that! I see nothing wrong with a great hobby especially if you can share it with friends, spouses, and family members.

Wendy and I are celebrating our 25th starting on Friday. We're heading to a fabulous place in Estes Park, CO. While our hobbies are vastly different, we get along on just about anything and think the same. Having a spouse that understands when you need some "me" time alone in the basement is HUGE.

Slot cars and my friends I've made as a result of them really carried me through 8 really rough years at work. I'd come home with my BP at 170/100-ish and really need to unwind. Fortunately, I've quit that job and am now medication free. The slots really helped work through that over the years.

People that think they are experts make me crazy. I'm the only expert on me. Not you, not my kid, nobody else. True story: I have an Aunt who is a great lady, but was a child psychologist for almost 40 years. Genius IQ and very smart...until she told me how to raise my kids...and had none of her own. Let's just say that when I was done questioning her credibility that it took years for us to talk again. Oh, and my kids? I'll put them up against anybody in the world.

Dan, you're a good man and I'm sure a good husband. You just need better friends ;)

Rob - buddy, I don't know how to break it to you...but here it is: Your wife is obsessed with quilting after 41 years. I don't know if you've seen the signs, but if you could contact Dan Dyke, I think he has a friend that can help her and ultimately save your marriage...

Seriously? Your wife is an artist and that is a great hobby.

I think most of us have heard this sort of thing before, where we enjoy a harmless and relaxing pastime that may not fit into other peoples rules and ideas about life. But an Intervention!!!! :think:

Dan, I think your lady friend needs a hobby instead of meddling in others affairs. Hobbies are a great stress reliever, at least they are for me, because if I'm doing them I don't have time to be stressed I'm having fun. I believe I would tell her to go to the roof of the tallest building and step off. :lol:

If it was just messing around it might be one thing but slots build social relationships in which you actually meet or communicate with people as people. Something this country lacks.

Boy am I lucky,
My wife is a stamping up fanatic. She collects them and uses them for everything.
It can be bam bam bam for hours.
So, she doesn't say anything when I get busy with my cars. Besides, she is also my Track Manager. Does a hell of a job.
