Last fall I really needed to get a handle on a lot of things, from cleaning out the barn to completing some slot car projects and starting others. I created a 'to-do' list on the computer and listed as many things as I could think of, and assigned tasks a priority from 1 to 3. Larger tasks might take a few hours and were a 1, lesser tasks could be done quicker. Things like planning how to do something, or getting supplies, also went on the list as priority 2 or 3. Then I got into the habit of doing at least one thing on the list a day, or more if time allowed. I even created a point system based on the priority and tried to out do myself week to week and month to month.
This actually worked for me. I'm the kind of nerd who loves checking things off lists, and gets a kick out of totaling up points. I can earn another 2 points tonight by changing a light bulb before bed.
