For the first time in 18 years...

I need to start looking for a new job opportunity~

I got the call today from my boss.. My position is being eliminated on March 20th.
The separation package is good so I won't have immediate financial issues, but I
certainly am nervous about having to find a good job at 50 in this economy..

I'll be running lean for a bit while I explore my options~

If anyone needs a (non salesman) customer relationship / account manager type, I'm your guy

You are hired.

No salary, but think of the slot car fame?

Seriously, good luck hunting. A good friend of mine just went through the same thing and came out just fine. You will do just fine I bet.

Kev - sorry to hear this. I changed after 15 1/2 years and know it is a bit scary.

I'll tell you what worked perfectly for me: LINKEDIN No kidding. My phone and email literally do not stop. I'm getting about 4 emails each day by recruiters, head-hunters, or companies. That is emails asking me to apply for specific jobs. Most of them are zero'd in on my qualifications as listed on the site. This does not include the number of looks, contacts and questions I get daily. The networking has worked well for friends of mine as well.

When I put up my LINKEDIN in December of 2013 I started getting sniffs. Had a consulting job offer for 20 months that worked extremely well in January, started in February. They liked me so much I was hired permanent by July and just promoted again last month. I got almost nothing off of Monster other than offers to start my own home business and other such nonsense.

Hang in there and good luck!

Experience is still winning out in the Job Market Kev, so you have that advantage going for you.
And what David said about LINKEDIN Is very correct. My wife had signed on/up with that, and get tons of e-mails all the time of good job opportunity's. Sometimes a forced change is better in the long run.

Still sucks for you though.Good luck
Bob

The job market is better than it was a few years ago. I think you will be able to get another job.

Just look at the positive side of it. You may find a better job now. Same thing happened to me several years ago after I had put in 11 years with Case. Then I got an offer to work for Kubota as a Product Engineer for Commercial Turf which I think was an improvement. With your attention to detail, I don't think you will have a problem moving on to a better job.
