It's very sad when you think of what Bob DeWoody attempted to do with DeBary Glen.
He financed the entire cost of the facility, track, cars and such out of his own pocket. Granted, he does not have high-maintenance wife, but it still took a lot of $$$$$ to keep the place up and running. To further complicate the issue, Bob is severely handicapped physically. He has to depend on friends and family to get the work done to keep DeBary Glen afloat.
When Bob first opened up, he was arranging "Kid's Races". About the only thing the racers need to supply was the desire to race. Bob kept the controller smoke under control, as well as managing the races on Saturday mornings. I thought it was an excellent way to introduce the public to the world of slot cars. Wow, was I ever wrong with that opinion!
Bob was starting to have weekly races - he had a set of rules - Group C raced on day, Classics another day, Modern Le Mans yet another and Scalextric another.
At it's heyday, DeBary Glen could have had racing 5 days a week - no one had to pay for a thing, Bob just dug a bit deeper into his own pocket to make it happen.
It is just so sad to know that all the time, effort and money that Bob DeWoody put into the promotion of slot car racing was not effective.
I will bet that if there was a joystick and a game port there, it would have been so much more popular.
BTW, Bob I salute you for what you tried to do. Wish I could have put more into it, but the Cancer has taken it's toll and I had no more to give.
Hopefully the Palm Bay track will move gracefully into your residence and live there for many a year to come.
Thank you for all that you did. I wish the outcome were so very different.
