Times they are a changin'

I raced pretty seriously in the sixties, and like so many, took a long hiatus until the early '90's, when I saw an ad for a Scaley set in some random catalog sent to "Resident." Yikes! It didn't take too long to learn that I had a great LHS about an hour away. John, the owner and I became friends and I went through a Scaley set-up and pretty quickly got into a nice Carrera set. About 18 months ago I rebuilt my track. Lots of fun sparks and many evenings with buddies playing with the toy cars. But the last six months I have found the slots to be kind of stale. Same cars, same track, same times, ... Went to see John today and bought two new cars. John showed me some good deals he had and it was a pleasant afternoon talking real cars and slot cars. Driving home I was really looking forward to driving my new Carrera 904. But I started to think about my conversation with John and the Carrera car. Almost everything they make now is digital. He had this really neat Carrera digital set at a pretty amazing price. By the time I made up my mind to go digital I was too close to home to turn around and go back. I will get my new digital set tomorrow and I already know that things are going to get exciting again.
