New hobby room & work desk ideas

Hi everyone. In less than a week ill be setting up my hobby room which will house a work desk & all my tools & bits & pieces, my track & all my cars & model kits. Everything in the one room, finally! Ive been at this hobby for 10 years or more now & I have never had a dedicated space. Up until now Ive been building cars on the dining table so everything would have to get packed away each night.

Basically along one wall will be my track. The other wall will be all desk. As a side note I should note that I am sharing the room with the good wife who will have her scrapbooking stuff & sewing stuff in there as well. Some people may say its a recipe for disaster but we play well together :) Whats better than a bit of hobby time together.

My room is only small so it will be jam packed but I cant wait. I am custom making my work desk & any storage etc so I have endless ideas atm. So has anyone got any useful things, setups, tools, storage to help me with my quest for the ultimate dungeon setup. How do you arrange your tools, paints etc? Your WIP cars? What tools cant I live without(other than the obvious). Etc

You can make a very clean looking work area with a long board. Then take all those old round magnets from your old Fly and Ninco cars; drill a shallow hole the same size as the o.d. of the magnet, put some white glue in the hole and then seat the magnet.

I got one of those multi drawer organizers and built a wood frame around it and added 3 shelves above it with 2 inch spacing for pliers and bigger tools I plan to add pegs on the side for my tape and other rolls of stuff

Also consider having your track table quite high. When I was strapped for storage space my table was 1 metre above ground.

John what is the track foot print. I can see it would be great storage space but wondered about length and width. A dandy idea I may borrow.

munter, its a long way to go to run on that long narrow track, but I want to do it! Looks like the ultimate track for top end runners.

Are you on the South Island? Our friend, Geoff is on walkabout in the north end of the South Island, messing about in mountainside vineyards, when earthquakes don't shake him off.

Bob, that track was sold when I moved four years ago. The footprint was 6 metres on the long side by 2 metres on the short side of the L.
Because I had it high off the ground I was aware of reaching for cars as I am on the short side of things so width was 800mm on the straight and 1metre on the end of the L.

Waytoomuch...I am in the east of the North Island...we have many vineyards here in our area (43 wineries in Hawkes Bay)
If your friend is up this way he should drop in although we aren't into wine we could do a drop of green tea or coffee.
