I thought this race was usually run on the Saturday of the holiday weekend. I was surprised to see it run on a Sunday night. I believe most people had Friday off, not Monday as their holiday. At the scheduled start time,after 8:00 PM, I saw it was in a rain delay and knew I wouldn't be able to watch the entire race last night ( I'm getting older and hard to go 0ver 15 hours without a nap, so I figured a would record it and watch Monday or the race would be cancelled and run today and I could watch it. To my surprise NASCAR actually started the race around midnight, go figure. I didn't know this until this morning when I started viewing what was recorded. My recording device will only record the hours the program was set to run. Knowing this, I set it to record about 5 extra shows to cover the rain delay. Well needless to say I got about half the race with over 7 hours recorded.
I guess my rant is why would NASCAR race on a Sunday night and schedule the race to start after 8:00PM
Why would NASCAR start a race so late at night, lucky the drivers didn't fall asleep, or from what I read, maybe a few did :lol:
This had to be about money because I personally can't see how any of this benefited the fans

I don't watch much NASCAR anymore, but I thought it was Saturday night as well..

I watched the start last night before bed, then caught the startling checkered flag finish this morning..

Thankful the catch fence held Dillons car from going in to the stands.. Can't believe he walked away without a scratch.
Besides Bodines truck wreck, don't think I've seen a worse crash there..

Why does NA$CAR insist in this "The show must of on mentality"?? They have a captive audience so, they have already paid their money so they're committed to having to having to stay no matter how ridiculous the start of the race.The Fourth of July race was called The Firecracker 400 and it was run on July Fourth whatever day it happened to be.But now it's all hype,spectacle, every race has a "storyline" not unlike Pro Wrestling.And the restricter plate races the "Big One " is what everyone anticipates.Just like most race reports the highlights were of the crashes........and oh by the way Dale Earnhardt won.Isn't it ironic that a car #3 wrecked on the last lap and the driver jauntily walked away waving to the crowd.But it took a crash far less serious looking than this for a driver of a car #3 to lose his life so that all these safety measures are mandatory!!

The race goes back to the fourth next year. This year was an exception. The network cried about the poor audience numbers on the evening of the fourth.

Incredible wreck and luck was certainly involved for the driver and the fans. I look for some more improvements to the catch fence. It did it's job, as did the sagfety improvements in the car. It was all so close to maybe killing 15 or more spectators, that I think there will be some serious looking at what else may be done to contain the cars and eliminate flying debris.

It was a good race, even though I had to stay up till 330 to see it all. The Hendrick teams sure looked to have a little more than anybody else. I enjoyed it.

I would think the deal was that this was NBC's official return to NASCAR broadcasting after being absent for 9 years. I'm surprised they didn't put some other programming on while waiting out the rain. I'm tired of Daytona and Talladaga races ending with GWC and wrecks throughout the last 10 laps. It was announced there would be a new areo package after this race. For what purpose I wonder. Give them a bigger spoiler so they could control the car in the turns. Oh can't do that no crashes and the car wouldn't be loose. How many cars spun out last night with no one touching them? I've be a fan over 50 yrs but like some say it's become more of a show than racing.



UPDATE,
For the race at Kentucky Spoiler goes from 6" to 3.5". Splitter decreased from 38" to 25". The claim is to increase passing in the straights. Since with the current package drivers are seldom lifting in the turns.

Goodyear says they didn't get enough time to develop the tire for the new package. So will we see even more wrecks with this increase in grip?

Drivers state, by time NASCAR changes things the engineers have already figured out how to regain the advantage lost. Even with reduced horsepower we continue to see new record laps year after year.

Does NASCAR = IROC Racing? I know everyone wants close racing but the sport today does little for brand loyalty in my opinion. No more Dodges/Chrysler for a second time and I still watch. Petty said it this way "If you rooted for me because I drove a Plymouth you were a Plymouth fan and not a Petty fan".

I think the new rules about the spoiler are only for Kentucky. They revert to the regular rules after Ky.

I did enjoy the new announcing team. My opinion, they are head and shoulders above the Fox team, especially the Waltrips. There were a lot less comments about "me" last nite then we get on the Fox broadcasts. Those guys had a tough first weekend with all the rain delays. They managed to hang in there and I enjoyed what I saw.

Michael is just a clown and would have been one of the loosingest drivers in Nascar if Dale sr hadn't befriended him. Heck he would never have even been in cup if DW wasn't his brother. His stupidity cost him his best driver and sponsorship. Now Napa is with Jr and Martin Truex had to scramble for a ride. Luckily Martin has done great and has a much better record than Michaels drivers.

New rules are for Kentucky but will be the rules package for 2016 on all tracks over 1 mile with a special package for Daytona and Talladaga.
