Something came to mind recently. In just having celebrated my 57th Birthday, I am like so many others on here, getting older.
Now that's a good thing if everything goes well, and life keeps dealing you good cards. On the other hand, if things get a little complicated, You could be holding a group of proxy cars, or some slot related stuff that has sold, and you cant get to them for shipping or running the race or etc. etc.
My point is here guys, that after being sick for a few days, I just had a mild Heart attack Friday morning, and after spending some time in the Hospital, it got me thinking of the responsibilities of my involvement in this hobby. I have several cars here that don't belong to me, and would need to be sent back to the owners in the event of me not being here to do that.
I had also just made a deal on some slot stuff with TuscoTodd, and was not able to ship them till nearly a week after he spent his hard earned money. While these are just toy cars, and it is just a hobby, I have found out that I need to involve at least one other person in my slot related goings on, to prevent anyone from not getting their cars or parts or whatever it is that would be laying in my slot cave along with the rest of the stuff not noticed by family members in the event of a tragedy.
moral of this story guys, we are not as immortal as we were at 18 or 25, and the ride might not last as long as the ticket said it would. so do your friends and fellow slot racers a favor, and let someone else know what is happening in your little corner of slotworld.

Well, I am sure we all want to wish you well on your recovery. Needless to say we have been thinking of you a lot. That pain you feel in your head? Yeah, that's us worrying :)

And good advice. YOU are the guy I pick. So that means you have to be around for many moons to handle the 2 or 3 cars I have laying about.

Some things just need brought to light while the thought is there.

And I would be more than happy to stick around and help any way I can! That is my current plan. :lol:

Bob, I had no idea that you were ill. I'm very sorry to hear that and I hope that you recover quickly.

You're right about health-related issues putting a different perspective on things. But, life is almost always a series of pendulum swings and when something happens in one direction we usually go further than we need to in the other direction to get to a position that we think is right. I'm sure you've got hundreds of cars that will be coming off your bench in the years ahead and I look forward to driving more than a few of them. Reflect, but don't' reverse; you're too young for that (said the 67 year old "kid"). When the Doctors say ""take it easier", they're talking intensity, not activity. What we usually find is that we can do just about everything that we used to do, we just need to find a way to do it in a little bit lighter way.

Thanks guys, Really my thoughts were on the cars that don't belong to me, that might be in my possession should something serious happen. they would need to get sent back to the owners, and if I didn't share the info with someone, they could be lost or in limbo till family started to sort things out.
I intend to stay here as long as it takes to win one of these Damn Proxies! and then some if possible.(of course I could be quite old if and when that happens)

Pay attention to what the medicos say, then check with another one to back it up. Too many vital health care decisions are being dictated by drug manufacturers and insurance companies, and the only way to get straight info is by taking a critical look at what is being done for you and seeking second opinions. Save yourself, in other words. Take it from two who know-- my wife the 40 year surgical specialist nurse and ER Triage, and me, injured so many times over the last 64 years, you would think I was a rodeo clown.

Thanks for the nudge Bob, Ive thought more than once "what the heck will my wife do with this basement full of stuff if something happens to me?" I had a heart attack early August and spent my 56th birthday at cardiac rehab. Doing fine now but was a pretty scary expereince. Its now on my to-do list to have that conversation with her, "if something happens contact the local slotters and open the doors!"

I often have the same thoughts about being able to ship some ones stuff to them. It hasn't happened but you just never know. I'm 65 heading real soon to 66 the 28th. I would feel bad knowing I couldn't get peoples belongings back to them too.

One of my brothers had a serious stroke in May and has been in the hospital ever since, and likely in long term care for the rest of his life. So yes, these things can happen at any time.

I've also been thinking about what inventions or devices folks like us might need in the years to come to stay in the hobby. Magnification setups for seeing small things and doing detail work, bodies that mount with magnets or Velcro and not small screws, even controller designs for use with disabilities. How will we still be racing slot cars 20 years from now?

Just talked to my lawyer buddy about wills last week.
I don't care about anything I shipped to anybody.
