WELL, New Years resolution was for 2016 to be a really good year.
Today and tonight we got 10 inches of rain and now its snowing .
Went from 7 above to 7 below , flash freeze they call it.
So I went down to the man cave for some hobby time.
Splash splash 6 inches of water in the basement .
Slot cars in cases floating around, slot cars on low shelves full of water.
My slot car wood case soaked , spares etc etc in those plastic floor shelves and drawers full of water.
I bet tomorrow the insurance company will tell me I'm not covered.
I can see this now , all the walls and insulation will have to go, and not sure about the furnace yet.
All the flooring , man I am just starting to think of the issues.
Im going to bed, the pump is still running so maybe it will be a bit lower in the morning.
Oh and I did take lots of pictures and have gotten my cars etc off the floor and air drying .
Some good ones , or at least ones I like anyway.

Geez Bob, that royally sucks, hope you get through it without too much pain, and that you can save much of your stuff...

Thanks Ron , I have put up what I can and air drying the cars I can.
At least the rain is over. But I think the walls will have to come down.
I hope my cars dont get totaled.
Now I am hoping the pump can keep up and get rid of the water.
At least my cars on proxy duty should be ok, man if you dont laugh you'll cry.

Bob, truly sorry to hear it. I can easily relate.

How about this?

Pick a pair of cars. Any two. Send them to me. I'll do my best to get them back to you in ready to run order. No charge, I'll even cover shipping both ways.

I realize the home comes first. Lot of things to do. Can't help you there and even if I was around I am the LAST person you want assistance from in home improvement.

But we have to start somewhere right?

Seriously though, at least it's the basement and not your bedroom. I believe slot cars will dry out as long as you are sure they are before you try to run them. MDF, not so much. I hope your track was spared from the flooding and you get the place dried out before it is affected.

Crazy weather. And who says there is no such thing as Global Warming?

That sucks bob i know the feeling. The cars should make it mine all did minus a few motors. I put all mine in bind with these moisture remover things i bought at menards. Minor surface rust on the engine casings. And water spots on the bodies. All in all most my slot stuff made it. Had to rebuild my table. My insurance company covered all my stuff, but mine was from dishwasher.

Good luck brother and if you still arent on your feet come February (im gone out of town most the rest of month) id gladly copy harrys offer and take two cars and clean em up and get them running on my dime too! Let me know. Keep your head up. At least no one is hurt :).

I hope the damage is limited and that you will get your home fixed quickly. Strongs to you and you family.
Talk about global warming, you got rain alot in a short time, we here in the centre of South Africa (Free State) has just gone through a heat wave. No rain from October and temps of between 36 and 46. Our normally green region looks like a desert, dams have dried up and even rivers dry beds....
But Chappy, hang in there, the home is the most important part.

Oh man, super drag...sorry to hear. Thoughts are with you.

Chappy, I've had to cope with two major water damage incidents at work in the last two months and I know it's a nightmare. We're with you and you'll probably have good funny stories to tell six months from now. But for now, this is not fun, that's for sure.

I'll send you a private email soon. SCC Canada will also participate in getting your slot car collection back on its feet.

Bob - I'm so sorry to hear this. That sucks in so many levels.

Thanks guys, well the insurance has bowed out already claimi g act of god.
My pump got rid of the water , fortunately I had an empty sistern at the time.
I know I can work with the cars and clean tools etc, and my furnace is still working.
But the basement will have to be ripped out just to avoid the mold issue.
I think I will have a contractor do that.
Thanks again for all your support, and slot cars do float if they are in the boxes.
Have to have some sense of humor don't we.

Really sorry to hear................Keep a stiff upper lip.
Here in the Midwest we're pretty familiar with flooding right now ourselves.
I had a sump pump quit a few years back while at work.
Came home to only a couple of inches, but the shop vac got a real work out. :(

And get those lawyers started. When I was a boy in the Gulf Coast and a hurricane was boiling up out of the ocean headed for us, we got post cards from insurance companies saying an act of God was about to happen. Finally, people got together and dragged their crooked butts into court, where they were excoriated by a judge who grew up on the coast, and knew full well what they had been getting away with. To my knowledge, they never tried that again after 1964 or so, which made Camille in '69 much less devastating than it might have been. Remember, the one thing you can depend on an insurance company to do is try anything to get out of their obligations.
