They are calling for1 -2 feet today and we have about 2 inches down now. I'm fairly new to Virginia and I don't think people here are use to 2 inches let alone a foot.

Over 6 inches now and still falling

I live in southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, but I'm in Arizona visiting my new granddaughter and (her sister!) for 2 weeks. Good timing? Supposed to get 16"-20" and it's going to be 68 degrees here!! I do like snow though, just not the work after a BIG one. Good luck to those getting clobbered.

Well we moved South to escape the snow.....on the Southern fringes of Jonas so we're getting ICE! The advantage of being retired is you can sit tight and let it pass!

My Aunt and Uncle are both in the DC area. I remember seeing TONS of hybrid cars there...yeah, that's not going to work out too well...

Going to be 51 here and that beautiful Colorado sun is out! Still have snow on the ground but the streets are clear (and have been for a while).

Two inches here, and the snow volume is getting thicker all the time. I'd say that visibility has gone from "unlimited" at 10am when it started to about 100 feet right now, getting harder all the time. We're at the other end of Virginia from Rick, about 80 miles south of D.C.

When we bought this house to retire, the real estate vulture told us, "Oh it never snows much here, it doesn't stick at all." In addition to three hurricanes, 2 of which were direct hits and record breakers, two earthquakes, one of which damaged the Washington Monument, there have been five snowfalls in excess of 12 inches, and 6 that were over 6 inches. Looks like the visibility is getting back towards 50 feet now. Much larger snowflakes and lots more of them.

Rob - Funny - but growing up in Silver Spring, MD and then Manassas, VA - I remember lots of snow during that time.

I have a Toyota 4Runner, so getting around, if I have to, isn't a problem. This is my first winter retired (do work 12-15 hours), so won't be in a hurry to clean up when I get home!

Exactly, David. We are still laughing at the claims that woman made about the area. She didn't know my wife's family has been in this county for almost 400 years!

The snow is now 5 inches deep and still coming down thick.

Since I have been here, it seems to be for ignorant, armed, angry, intolerant people with a rosy hue around the collar of their dirty T-shirts. I figure its karma, for all the bad things we used to say about Alabama when I lived in Mississippi as a boy. I retired to Alabama North Annex! I'm gonna go pray for forgiveness now...

Snow is all but done here

It's been snowing here Nashville TN since 6:00 AM and is still snowing. It was at 7 inches around noon. That was the high side prediction. Flakes are no longer large but it is still coming down. I'll be in until Monday when the heat wave comes through pushing temps into the 50s. Will be below freezing all weekend with a break Sunday for 1 hour where it is said to get to 34 :lol: . I do have 4 proxy cars to work on. All parts should be here Monday. Will ship out on Wednesday for Jan 31 deadline. Wife did get me a snow blower for Christmas. She's always buying me something to work with, UMMMMMMMMMM :violin: Maybe I'll try it out when it finally quits falling.

I can say I like seeing all the snow in the pics....





....cuz it's in someone else's yard!!!! :lol:


But since I'm in NH, I know my turn will be coming...hopefully later than sooner.... :pray:

Its a surprising blizzard to us regardless, having not seen a blizzard here in a century or so, but I assume you are prepared better than we can imagine. Right now, I'm beginning to think about weight on local people's roofs. A great many of these folks around here can't know what to do to prepare. As a boy, I lived in Ontario a few years, and I remember what I learned there (having come fresh from the Gulf Coast and Bayou Country), was starkly different from anything I ever knew. I just measured, and we have a foot of snow, plus 3 inches of sleet so far. We have the night's snowfall and all day tomorrow's before we can take stock. I hope we don't hear about destruction of historic places. There is an awful lot of history hereabouts. The big joke here is that it takes four people to change a light bulb here. One to change it, and 3 to bow in reverent silence remembering the historic contribution of the bulb.
