Ford GT at the New York Auto Show

There were not many exotic or concept cars at the show this year. The Ford GT made its debut last year, this year they had one with different paint. Too bad they did not have one in its racing livery. I should have asked when the street versions would go on sale.

The 1:1 cars are being raced, they had reliability problems at the Rolex 24 hour race, those were fixed for the Sebring race where the Ford GT led their class for a time. The cars look like prototypes, but they actually run in the same class as the Corvette C7Rs.

I Instinctively and immediately clicked on this and then decided to wait until my annual visit to the show. Closed my eyes (like a little kid) and scrolled past to enter this posting. Of course I've seen the car many times before, but this will be my first "up close and personal" view, so I'm saving the experience of seeing the car with all the ambience of the show for my Tuesday morning visit with my brother. The FORD exhibit is always my first stop once I enter the actual ticket gate for the show, after checking out the exhibits in the outer atrium. It was worth the wait! Looking at your excellent, clear photos today puts me right back where I was standing yesterday, up against that short plexiglass barrier, gawking at FORD's new supercar. I was hoping to see the car in the traditional American racing colors, white with blue stripes, but I guess FORD decided to go with the same color scheme they used to debut the GT in 2005. I'm not a big fan of yellow with black, but you wouldn't have to twist my arm for a ride in that car! I also enjoyed the red 1968 Alfa Romeo prototype race car at the Alfa display, and those two 1800 series Volvos were absolutely gorgeous! The Mazda prototype and Acura NSX racers were also nice to see at the show. Very strange (and personally disappointing), NO Ferrari display at all. And no IndyCar or F1 racers on display, either.

I guess you missed the Indy car! Ferrari has not been at the show recently, but Lamborghini was there last year. I go to the Greenwich Concours every year and The local Ferrari and Lamborghini dealer should have the latest models of those.

How could we have missed Graham's ride? After decades of attending that event I can't remember ever missing something like that! Do you recall what level of the show that display was located on? Man, the two of us walked that entire exhibition top to bottom, from 11 am 'til 5 pm. We must've been distracted by one of those fancy, late model, two legged attractions walking around the show! :>)

The Indy car was part of the Honda display on the main floor, too bad that you missed it. I do have more pictures of it, drop me a PM and I can send you larger pictures than the ones that I post. The layout of the show was confusing for sure, Subaru, Scion and Fiat were 'way up in the North end of the building. There was stuff on the first level in the South end, and trucks and SUVs downstairs. I was there on Friday and the second floor was not open that day. The program includes a map, but since I was taking pictures I did not want to fuss around with a program.
The mobile scenery was nice as usual.

Yes Rich, that was it. Some of the exhibits that appeared pretty pedestrian in their offerings as we approached were turned away from in favor of something a bit more interesting. When I showed the IndyCar photo to my brother, he replied, "I remember seeing the side of that motorcycle, and then we went in another direction". Lesson learned. I've been going to that event since my Dad used to take me to the old NY Coliseum in the 1960's, and typically spend many hours there each year. I should know better than to arbitrarily skip a few hundred square feet of floor space just to get to something else a few minutes sooner. I've also stopped going on the first Friday of the show, for just the reasons you've mentioned. Even though that upper vendor level has become a bit of a circus and is not what it used to be, after commuting in by train from eastern Long Island I'd like to be able to see all the show has to offer, not be told that certain exhibits will be opening on Saturday. Thanks for the offer of more photos, but that's not necessary, what you've posted here are clear reminders of the event and much appreciated.

That's the factory "hot rod" Abarth version, I liked the metallic blue base version better, personally.

I have been told that these are actually Miatas with a Fiat engine and will be assembled by Mazda. Here is the regular version of the "Fiata"
