Ship via FedEx or DHL (DHL especially if it's going to Germany-they are a German company after all) not USPS. They lie in saying that their tracking works.. it does not (not consistently at least).

David UPS also ships international. Not sure what happened with this USPS shipment but the big 3 UPS FedEx and DHL tracking is door to door.

USPS recently stated millions of dollars in losses over last 10 years. So the answer to that is raise rates which they did 3 weeks ago. Just another government backed losing business.

DHL purchased Airborne Express to acquire the North American "domestic" service in the mid 2000s. I was on my way to retiring from Airborne after being injured on the job, and never did wear the yellow and red DHL colors. From what I was told, the deal never worked out and DHL has remained an international shipping specialist in the industry. Airborne is gone. Just what I was told, as I said. Seems they've got lots of money, as they sponsor both Indy Car and Formula One programs, right?
I personally don't do any international deals at the present time, so I can't offer anything but this small anecdote to the conversation.

Dennis,
The cost to ship by USPS is way lower than any integrated carrier. That is why I personally use USPS for domestic shipments. Where else can you get a package delivered in the continental US from 1-2 lbs residential in 2 days for under $10. I have also shipped to Canada and Greece with no issues. Even though I worked for Big Brown for 42 years USPS has carried all of my proxy cars. Can't beat them for under 1 lb. Having been in sales for 28 yrs I understand the rational for UPS, FedEx and DHL to add the residential surcharge. The mail truck is going to every house on the street. The UPS truck in residential areas my travel .5-1 mile between stops. Even more in rural areas.
Take your pick and ship at your own risk.

right but cost isn't what i was getting at... i defy anyone to tell me with a straight face that USPS tracking actually exists... it simply does not when you're talking about shipping overseas. I had 2 packages lost in Canada and when I went to the USPS locally they told me that they simply cannot (under any circumstances) actually track a package when it leaves the country. i've actually had 1 package lost here in the US too that wasn't able to be tracked.

When AlexisInGreece was the moderator for the Pony Car Wars Proxy on SCI for 2 years cars had to be shipped to Greece. I used USPS shipping to. He used Postal Service for the return. To my memory the tracking ended at the receiving post office. Not door to door as the big 3.
