Posted: Thu Jul 06, 2017 10:50 amI raced on an epoxy paint surfaced American Imperial track for a few years in the mid-late 1980s, just before I had the opportunity to open my own Long Island commercial raceway. We ran hard body cars, womps, the then new Parma Flexi Kars, and various group 12, 15, 20 and 27 USRA wing cars. Basically a "Blue King" style layout, but with much more driving involved, even when comparing the original American designs side by side. The Imperial is 5 feet shorter, has elevation changes in the main straight, and that little short chute in the middle of the doughnut, just to mention a few. The GP 15 and 27 "Pros" used to "glue" that little strip!
